Hone Operator - Trainee

Job Summary

Hone Operator performs precision honing and finishing to controlled specifications. Responsible for setting up, operating, and running Sunnen honing machine. The Honing operator will inspect work for defects.

Essential Functions

• Verify machine setup by inspecting and verifying product characteristic are within tolerance per the part print specifications. This is done on the 1st piece and throughout the process run using the appropriate measuring device suitable for the required tolerance.
• Operate honing equipment with efficiency and quality without supervision.
• Assist in performing maintenance to equipment and minor repairs as needed.
• Carry out honing assignments to the highest level of quality.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Must demonstrate experience by displaying high production rates and low rework rates.
• Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
• Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.

Education/Experience Requirements

• 2 years of experience with honing machining, preferably working with Sunnen honing machines
• Ability to work to close tolerances
• Ability to read and understand blue prints
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions
• Work closely with fellow employees

Other Requirements

• Must submit to and pass background and substance abuse tests
• Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
• Must follow designated safety rules and regulations
• Responsible for performing duties in an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment
• Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dirt, dust and solvents
• Must be able to work extended hours (including weekends) as necessitated by production requirements

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting of up to 30-40 lbs. from floor to waist.
• Must have the ability to work in a manufacturing environment and stand at equipment for up to 10 hours per day.
