Penn Medicine Becker ENT & Allergy seeks an enthusiastic nurse to join their Allergy team in Central Jersey where potential work locations include offices in Princeton and Monroe. The ideal applicant must be team oriented, flexible, organized and have great communication skills. Attention to detail is a must. Experience in allergy not required. The successful applicant will be trained in the primary duties which include:
Performance of skin testing for immediate (prick and intradermal testing) and delayed (patch test) hypersensitivity to include proper preparation of the patient, application, interpretation, and documentation of the skin test results. This includes aseptically preparing dilutions for testing if needed.
Interpretation of allergen prescriptions, administer immunotherapy injections via progressive dosage schedules, and determine adjustments to schedule and dosage based on the patient’s symptoms, previous reactions or issues, and time between injections. This may include aseptically preparing treatment kit dilutions in accordance with the prescription.
Perform mixing of new and refill extracts for both injection and sublingual immunotherapy as instructed on allergen immunotherapy prescription. This will include aseptic preparation of vials, no cross contamination of stock vials, preparation of dilution vials, and appropriate labeling with patient identifying information.
Performance of pulmonary function studies including spirometry, peak flow studies, and nebulizer treatments for evaluation and management of asthma patients.
Assist in drug, food, and vaccine challenges as well as drug and vaccine desensitizations.
Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and initiate emergency procedures and treat anaphylaxis with epinephrine, nebulizer treatments, intravenous fluids, and other necessary treatments.
Treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Education of patients on allergy shots and clinic expectations.
Able to document all care provided in the appropriate medical systems.
Order allergy extracts and other necessary testing supplies. Clean and maintain equipment and procedure rooms, as well as order supplies and medications needed.
Assist in orientation, training, and technical supervision of new allergy nurses and technicians. Assist in clinic performance improvement and research projects. Maintain all mandatory nursing and clinic education requirements.
