Position Overview

The Lead Driver is a driving professional that supports the driver foreman and driver manager in ensuring safe and efficient concrete delivery practices. The Lead Driver will lead by example and promote teamwork and a collaborative environment by setting the standard for other drivers to live up to. The Lead Driver improves communication with management, facilitates training opportunities, evaluates site conditions, optimizes loading and unload processes and supports other drivers in any way possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• 
  In addition to all the duties and responsibilities of driving and operating a RMC Truck the lead driver will support the driver foreman and driver manager in the following ways:

• Safety:
  • Adhere to and promote use of all required PPE
  • Perform daily inspections to a high standard and support other drivers do the same
  • Drive safely, adhering to the principles of the Smith System, observing basic principles of road courtesy and coaching other drivers as appropriate
  • Being alert on the jobsite, being watchful of potential hazards and communicating these to drivers, customers and the driver foreman/manager.
  • Regularly lead Toolbox Talks at their plant.
• Training:
  • On slow days the Lead Drivers will perform ride-alongs with other Drivers.
  • Assist in the training process for new and existing drivers.
  • Assist the Driver Manager in doing driver evaluations.
• Quality
  • When relevant, the Lead Driver should communicate jobsite issues that may impact product acceptance or placement to the driver foreman, QC team or dispatch.
• Efficiency
  • Emphasizes efficient operation at all times by working with drivers to safely arrive on each jobsite in a timely fashion.
  • Helps his driver group adhere to the allotted time standards for start-up and shutdown time.
  • Communicate any own ideas or those from other drivers to improve efficiency to management.
• Appearance
  • The Lead Driver presents a professional appearance, dresses in accordance with the company’s policy and sets a good example for other team members.
  • The Lead Driver should maintain their truck in a clean condition. The cab is clean and neat, and the exterior of the cab and the mixer are free from built-up of concrete and oil. The Lead Driver will also teach and encourage other Drivers to keep their units in an acceptably clean and presentable condition.

Education/Experience

• 
  High school diploma

• 3-5 years of driving (Class B or A)

• Fundamental knowledge of aggregate and ready-mix commodities

General Requirements

• Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations

• Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary

• Travel may be required

• Cross training within and assisting multiple departments when necessary
