Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

The intern/coop assists the business unit in meeting its strategic goals and leads/supports kaizen events, lean work cell design, standard product design revisions, cost improvement projects, The lean manufacturing engineer coop/intern plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes at site; utilizes project management skills to implement new operational processes and equipment. The intern/coop may also lead DMAIC projects, capital expenditure projects and supply chain initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists department in developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods.    
  • Helps with the analysis and plans for work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.    
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.  
  • Prepares and maintains manufacturing documentation (Routers, OMS’s, and MI’s) for new and existing products in manufacturing.
  • Applies statistical methods to resolve and improve quality and productivity of manufactured products.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Pursuing a 4 year degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Skill in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of drafting principles, CAD, solid modeling, material properties, prototyping techniques, electromechanical mechanisms, experience with ERP systems are preferred.
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience with hand tools to facilitate the assembly and installation of tests.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete projects on schedule and on budget.
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Analyze, organize, and problem solve frequently and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate status and actions effectively

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION:

Walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50lbs, use of a computer, typing and ability to speak English.

POSITION TERM:
Summer 2020, tentative start date: May 26th, 2020.

Tentative end date: Aug. 28. 2020.
