Position: PLANNING AND HEALTH PROMOTION DIRECTOR
Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is seeking a full-time Planning and Health Promotion Director to direct strategic initiatives, lead the planning, health promotions, and communications for the Barry Eaton District Health Department. This Director facilitates program development, health monitoring and quality improvements, according to community needs and health priorities by directing health promotion activities.
We are the nationally accredited public health service agency for Barry and Eaton counties in Michigan. As the Director, you will have the opportunity to:
- Oversee the evaluation of community needs and the development of plans to meet those needs.
- Plan for public health needs by forecasting future program needs, improvements and expansion of services.
- Collaborate with community partners and coordinate the development of programs with community agencies.
- Direct communications and other related activities to build a positive brand identity; Assure equitable access to health information amongst all populations, and that health department products are professional, accessible, accurate, and trustworthy.
- Responsible for budget and funding plans. Research grant opportunities and other sources of funding and assists other divisions with alternative funding sources.
- Provide leadership and managerial support in program performance monitoring and evaluation activities and quality improvement activities.
- Assess quality and utilization of services and resources; Evaluate the effectiveness of programs by collecting and analyzing statistical data regarding health services.
- Supervise and provide direction for division operations; evaluate performance, effectively manage employees engaged in assessments, communications, health promotion, and health education activities.
- Mentor, train, and advise employees in the division, ensuring professional development and in-service training.
- Serve as the Public Information Officer and chief spokesperson for media.
Ideal Candidates will possess:
- Master's degree in health education, public health, or a related field of study
- Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of public health administration, the techniques of program planning, health communications, program development and program evaluation
- Advanced skills in reviewing and presenting information to the public
- Professional experience in a public health setting, preferred
- Strong quantitative reasoning and data analysis skills
- Advanced knowledge and efficient use of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and knowledge of design systems such as Canva, Visme, or Adobe Design
- Website content management and social media management skills with ability to evaluate media products for meeting communications goals
- Ability to travel for business between BEDHD offices, meetings, and other work site locations throughout the Barry and Eaton counties
