The 1st Engineer works shore-side supervising engineering department staff and overseeing ongoing maintenance, repair and safe operation of mechanical systems on assigned AMHS vessels.

Would you like to:
- Manage multiple fleet overhaul capital improvement projects
- Supervise record completion for tracking overhaul and maintenance efforts
- Approve equipment procurements
- Work with project teams to coordinate vessel construction, overhaul and operating schedule
- Supervise all engineering staff, oversee all AHMS vessel maintenance and operation activities
- Evaluate contractor performance, accepting or rejecting contracted work
- Estimate costs, track machinery and engine repairs
- Periodically review operating and power systems on vessels, ensuring effective operation and conformance to preventative maintenance requirements
Ideally you have:
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) issued Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) endorsed with the following:
National Endorsements:
- First Assistant Engineer Motor Propelled Vessels (any HP)
- Lifeboatman
USCG STCW (International) Endorsements:
- Officer In Charge of Engineering Watch III/2
- Proficiency in the Use of Survival Craft VI/2
- Basic Training (BT) (Formerly Basic Safety Training (BST)) VI/1
- Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties VI/6
- Valid TWIC
- Valid USCG Medical Certificate
- Passenger RO/RO certification (Crowd Management and Crisis Management)
- Advanced Firefighting Certification
AMHS-Specific Training and Certifications:
- Passenger RO/RO certification for Vessel Specific Familiarization Training
- EEO/Preventing Sexual Harassment Certificate or Respectful Workplace Certification may be substituted
- Basic HCT Curriculum
- Supervisors HCT Curriculum
- BioSystem Multi-Gas Meter HCT (Written Qualification Form)
- Forklift Compliance HCT
- Hazmat Basic
- Maritime Security Awareness Online Course (Security 101 course may be substituted)
- Marine Evacuation System Certification
- Academy for Supervisors (State of Alaska)
