What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director/Director, Oligonucleotide Discovery position at PepGen?
The Senior Director/Director of Oligonucleotide Discovery is a highly motivated Senior Director/Director level scientist that will join the Research team and help lead the development of PepGen’s novel oligonucleotides therapeutics. The Senior Director/Director of Oligonucleotide Discovery will play an important role in shaping the future of PepGen’s proprietary enhanced delivery oligonucleotides (EDOs). In addition to providing leadership and guidance within PepGen's Research Team, the successful candidate will work with other functional leads at PepGen to discover and develop first-in-class and best-in-class EDO therapies for neurological and neuromuscular diseases and as well as other genetic diseases with profound medical need. The ideal candidate thrivesin a highly collaborative environment and is driven to move the needle for people living with rare and degenerative disease
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the design, screening and optimization of antisense oligonucleotides
- Generate proof of concept data for specific disease targets to support the development of pipeline programs
- Lead the development of antisense oligonucleotides specifically for use as tools for the evaluation of the delivery platform (e.g. MALAT1 targets)
- Use in silico tools to support the identification and optimisation of oligonucleotides
- Manage all aspects of both in vitro and in vivo assessment of oligonucleotide proof of concept data generation - Design and execute experimental plans with a critical eye for the evaluation and interpretation of data
- Present data in internal and external meetings and conferences
Requirements:
- PhD in relevant field and 8 years of relevant experience
- Proven track record in oligonucleotide design and development for biological targets - Experience of taking a screening program from initiation to lead optimisation and candidate identification
- Familiarity in using oligonucleotides as a tool for assessing biodistribution and delivery Experience in a broad range of oligonucleotide chemistries and modalities
- Deep knowledge of robust experimental design, execution and interpretation of data

- Experience working in the rare disease space
- Clear communication of research findings both internally and externally
