The R&D Scientist for Ingredient & Flavor Science & Technology role is part of the Global Beverage Functional Capabilities R&D group
Supports projects, designs experiment and executes research activities with a team of scientists ensuring properly document data driven experiments. Work with specification writers to develop accurate and robust data substantiating improved specifications.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects and demonstrate ability to understand application of scientific research and experimental design to project objectives.
- Provide product formulation support by accurately preparing laboratory beverages and concentrates.
- Design experiments determining accurate range of data for robust specification development.
- Develop data correlating analytics, statistics and sensory to validate targets and limit of functional components in Ingredients.
- Develop scientifically driven, robust, functional specifications that can be implemented into the downstream businesses.
- Implement and maintain stability storage studies.
- Submission of samples for analytical and sensory evaluation.
- Plan, conduct and coordinate production runs, manage ingredient orders, expiration, handling, prepare batch sheets, schedule and run tech center, ensure product meets specifications.
- Plan, conduct and report for all works including but not limited to production runs, shelf life studies, ingredient assessments.
- Possess intermediate technical knowledge of ingredient functionality and potential interactions.
Key Challenges:
- Ability to manage and learn a wide variety of different ingredient research areas especially clean label ingredients.
- Demonstrates the ability to influence technical policy.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize knowledge to influence/direct PD initiatives.
- Ability to manage and learn a wide variety of different product characteristics from cold fill to thermal processed beverages, conduct bench-top sensory tasting, ingredients stability testing ,etc.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership skill and manage multiple project tasks to support the individuals of the workgroup, manage time and expectations for group needs.
- Effectively communicate conflict of requests.
- Ability to provide thought leadership on tactical aspects of projects.
- Ability to demonstrate proper laboratory techniques and equipment handling.
- Laboratory notebook up to date containing all experiments including methods, formulas and results.

Compensation & Benefits:
• The expected compensation range for this position is between $67,800 - $85,000.
• Location confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary.
• Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 5% of annual salary paid out annually.
• Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications
- BS in a scientific field with bench work experience.
- Minimum of 1-2 years prior beverage/food industry experience.
- Ability to flawlessly execute bench work, plan ahead for tech center runs, ability to communicate with several plant coordinators to ensure ingredient supply.
- Ability to proactively and positively interface with various analytical functions in order to assure timely execution of testing.
- Must be well organized, capture work details and learning and highlight any unexpected learning.
- Ability to manage and learn a variety of product processing techniques, from hot-fill to cold-fill methods.
- Proficient in lab environment (e.g., chemistry techniques, use of lab equipment, lab safety).
- Computer Skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously to support individuals of the work group, manage time and expectations for group needs.
- Outstanding team working skills, strong initiative, and reliable.
- Must be proactive, reliable and self-motivated.
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly.
