Our Medical Coder responsibilities include the following:
- Collects billing information for all discharged patients.
- Records billing information accurately on billing report.
- Processes insurance claims for discharged patients daily.
- Follows up on problem claims as needed.
- Verifies insurance benefits for all admit and potential admits
- Transmits claims electronically and by mail to Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance.
- Maintain financial folders on all patients in a secure locked cabinet.
Qualifications for a Medical Coder include the following:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum two (2) years’ experience with clerical, billing and medical records in an inpatient behavioral health setting required.
- Additional Requirements: Medical Coding certificate preferred. Successful completion of CPR and Handle with Care or Crisis Prevention Intervention Training within 30 days of employment.
