BENEFITS COORDINATOR
This is a year-round position with full-time administrative appointment in the Human Resources department. This position will report to Human Resources Manager.
The benefits specialist is responsible for administering Perry Technical Institute’s benefit programs to ensure compliance with Perry Technical Institutes’ policies and procedures and all appropriate regulatory agencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed in a school and office setting. Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must.
This is an exempt, full-time, regular position.
SALARY RANGE: $25.00-$29.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience administering various benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision, unemployment, workers compensation, COBRA, FMLA, 401(k) etc.
- Experience working with automated complex HRIS systems.
- Demonstrated experience showing time management and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and the ability to use computerized database programs.
- Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
- Must be willing to submit to a drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
- Human Resources Certification (PHR or SHRM-CP).
- Microsoft Office certification.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate effectively and interface with staff, third party administrators, and instructors in a professional, approachable manner.
- Have good attendance and the ability to work well with others.
- Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration. Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes. Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
- Oversee and carryout administrative functions for the 401(k).
- Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, and 401(k) changes. Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and communicate with payroll any necessary changes.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee questions regarding benefits coverage and program details. Provide customer service support to employees. Develop and maintain communication tools to enhance understanding of the organization's benefits package. Design and distribute materials for open enrollment and summary plan descriptions.
- Prepare materials and conduct new employee benefits orientations. Keep material up-to-date.
- Maintain records and carryout administrative functions for special benefits such as COBRA, Workers Compensation, unemployment benefits, etc.
- Serve as ADA Coordinator for employees. Coordinate the ADA Committee, provide leadership on issues related to disability access and compliance. Ensure compliance with ADA laws pertaining to higher education and disability accommodations.
- Schedule student and employee random drug testing, reviewing school calendars for potential conflicts. Monitor scheduled RDT dates and reschedule as conflicts occur. Provide employee drug testing data to Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator for Biennial review of Drug and Alcohol policy.
- Work closely with the Vice President of Finance & Administration on the annual 401(k) audit and Form 5500.
- Prepare/Oversee the preparation of the annual Form 5500 for the Healthcare plan.
- Maintain current knowledge of related governmental rules and regulations, including ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPPA, Workers Compensation, and other applicable Labor and/or Tax laws and regulations, fulfills compliance and reporting requirements. Keep abreast of current development in relevant higher education and non-profit personnel practices.
- Serve as back up to HR Specialist and Director of HR as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
