What You Will Achieve

The Associate Director (AD), Patient Engagement will instill a patient centric culture across Discovery and Early Development and build internal capabilities that support effective patient engagement, ensuring meaningful involvement of patients and amplification of their voices across Pfizer’s research and development pipeline. The AD of Patient Engagement will manage the PRD Patient InSight Committee (Standing Committee of patients, caregivers, patient advocates) and serve as key liaison and PoC for relevant insight generation and bidirectional communication between InSight Committee members and Pfizer project teams. This is a highly collaborative role that will involve close collaboration with other internal functions, including Clinical, Translational Clinical Sciences, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development/Operations, HEOR, Regulatory, Commercial, and Corporate Communications.

As an Associate Director, your advanced knowledge of the principles and concepts in the discipline and comprehensive knowledge of other disciplines will enable you to lead complex projects across the division. Your ability to develop and manage plans will facilitate in achieving objectives, interpreting internal and external business challenges and recommending best practices for improvements. While managing complex project environments, you will be able to anticipate and troubleshoot roadblocks and influence teams to achieve targets for the division.

It is your problem-solving ability and leadership that will make it possible for customers and patients to receive the medicines they need when they need them.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Advance/support Pfizer’s patient-centric initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance patient centricity within DED.
  • Ensure that the patient perspective is at the center of all our efforts, integrating patient perspectives into our activities and ensuring that we are meeting the expectations of the patient communities we aim to serve through our actions.
  • Work with internal, cross-functional teams to align on Patient Engagement objectives and priorities - Assist in identifying appropriate opportunities where PAG / patient partnerships can enhance and accelerate DED programs.
  • Manage PRD Patient InSight Committee (Standing Committee of patients, caregivers, patient advocates) – serve as key PoC for patients, including contracting and payment
  • Serve as a liaison for relevant insight generation - Partner with RU scientists and clinical colleagues to identify key milestones for application of patient insights into scientific discovery and translation, development strategy, CDP design and operational execution.
  • Oversee Patient /PAG contracting and payments
  • Represent Pfizer in the patient community - Position Pfizer’s IMRU as a valued partner in the patient community.
  • Facilitate engagements between PAGs and internal Pfizer subject matter experts to advance mission-matched priorities
  • Assist in execution of patient engagement activities such as disease awareness initiatives, advisory boards, patient speaker engagements, clinical trial planning and patient input acquisition, internal and external patient speaker events.
  • Represent Pfizer’s DED and Patient Centricity interests at key internal and external forums.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) and 9 years of Patient Engagement experience OR
  • Doctorate degree (PhD/PharmD/JD) and 4 years of Patient Engagement experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in relating to colleagues and associates both inside and outside the organization
  • Good MS Office Skills. Basic knowledge of navigating Teams and Sharepoint.

Experience

  • Patient advocacy experience in industry, patient advocacy organization or clinical practice with preferred understanding (experience preferred) in involving patient advocacy groups/healthcare foundations in drug discovery and early clinical drug development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful relationships and use the ‘soft skills’ needed to connect well with patient advocacy groups/patients/caregivers; ability to express passion and empathy for patients/families in need.
  • Demonstrated understanding of scientific/mechanistic aspects of drug discovery, research and development.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational, prioritization and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of patient advocacy codes of conduct and regulations across major geographies, including guidelines governing patient / PAG contracting
  • Understanding of guidelines and best practices for patient / PAG engagement in the US.
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to partner well across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to embody Pfizer’ Purpose Blueprint and Values & Behaviors.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, if needed, in support of Patient Advocacy objectives
  • Well-developed planning, observation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including ability to persuade, negotiate and moderate conflict.

Non-standard Work Schedule, Travel Or Environment Requirements

Pfizer site-based (Groton, NYC, Boston, Collegeville)

Willing to travel domestically and internationally in support of objectives. Given the nature of the role, and the weekend nature of many advocacy events, the incumbent will need to be able to travel on/over weekends if needed. Total travel time approximated to be ~20%

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $131,200.00 to $218,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 17.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
