Department Overview
Electric Distribution is responsible for the safe construction, maintenance and operation of PG&E's electric distribution system, and is comprised of the following groups: Service Planning and Design, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Major Projects and Programs, System Operations and Control, Maintenance and Construction, Restoration Compliance Operations.
Service Planning and Design Intern provides support to the various activities required to deliver gas and electric services to PG&E customers. These activities include: customer communications, project management, data analysis, executive presentations development, meetings facilitation, field visits of customer job sites, review of electric & gas designs, cost estimates and contracts.
Position Summary
The SP&D Intern will be working with the Service Planning Representatives, Estimators, Supervisors and Regional Service Planning Managers to deliver gas and electric services to PG&E customers. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn PG&E core business operations and a variety of functions that it takes to connect new customers. The Intern will learn about service planning, project management, design, estimating and construction of gas and electric services. The Intern will help the leadership team oversee their New Business portfolio, facilitate timely work progression, execute portfolio clean up strategies , and maintain strong relationships with our external clients and associations The Intern will also participate in identifying potential gaps in providing timely service to our customers and implementing process improvements to address these gaps.
Job Responsibilities
- New Business Process Support, including engagement in end to end process steps, from customer application to contract issuance and construction
- Develop, implement, track, analyze, and execute on portfolio health strategies; provide leadership with regular analysis of projects in need of additional attention
- Pro-active customer relationship building with large customers
- Proactively reach out to external customers prior to the Construction Phase to gain a pulse on the customer experience and help to mitigate any negative trending issues
- Work proactively with internal and external customers to resolve issues and customer complaints
The successful Intern will gain knowledge of the core PG&E business operations and a multitude of related careers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Communications, Industrial Organization, Public Administration, or in an Engineering Discipline, or related field. Students must be continuing education towards degree during and/or after the internship.
Desired:
- Customer Service experience in retail, food or other industries
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
- Business experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
