Collection and Instructional Librarian

The Oliver Wendell Holmes Library at Phillips Academy Andover seeks a personable, energetic, creative, and self-directed individual to become a member of our Librarian Team. The successful candidate will support the library by cataloging library material in various formats and working with colleagues to improve instruction and reference services. This is an academic year only, 13-hour per week daytime position, with the ability to work 12pm-8pm two-three Sundays each term.

The successful candidate will:

• Catalog all library materials

- Participate in the Library’s instruction program; planning, teaching, and assessing teacher- requested instruction sessions.

• Provide reference and research assistance to the community.
• Identify and select materials for purchase in given subject areas.
• Participate in collection maintenance activities, including, shelf reading, material de-selection, and inventory.
• Participate in professional development activities.

Qualifications Required:

• Master’s degree in library and/or information science
• Experience in copy-cataloging and the Dewey Decimal System
• One to two years of experience in, and enthusiasm for, developing and teaching effective library instruction sessions and curricula.
• Ability to communicate about current information and emerging technologies.
• Current experience in providing reference services and conducting one-on-one consultative reference interviews.
• Knowledge of major databases used in an academic environment.
• Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

A background check must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position at Phillips Academy.

Preferred:

• Experience working with teens and an understanding of their mindset and interests.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
• Previous experience with Evergreen ILS
