About The Role:

As a Party Chief, you are responsible for planning, organizing, instructing and supervising the daily performance of survey crew under the supervision of a licensed surveyor.

This position performs technical survey functions with minimal supervision.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, hydrographic surveys and construction stakeout
• Check, verify, and establish land lines, survey control points and elevation grades with minimal supervision
• Conduct daily field safety toolbox meetings
• Communicate complex situations found in the field in a format readily understandable to drafting personnel
• Responsible for precision and accuracy of survey notations provided either in field books or electronic format
• Download field data from instrument to computer and analyzes data for completeness and accuracy
• Perform complex mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry, and trigonometric formulas and equations
• Analyze raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy
• Operate total station, data collection equipment, digital and conventional levels and GPS survey equipment to measure distances, establish lines, take cross-sections/profiles, establish traverse points and determine vertical measurements
• Troubleshoot survey equipment problems and takes corrective action in the field
• Responsible for daily work reports/logs and time sheets for assigned projects and yearly vehicle driving logs

What You Bring:

• Must possess a high school diploma or acceptable equivalency (required)
• Minimum of 3 years of surveying experience (required)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Survey Crew Member and/or Junior Party Chief operating a total station, automatic level and GPS survey instruments (required)
• A valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to our company insurance provider is a condition of initial and continued employment (required)
• Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at all times and supervises crew members to do the same
• Good knowledge of survey concepts and practices and ability to manage the work of others
• Ability to solve surveying related problems in the field
• Good knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used to operate total stations, automatic level and GPS survey instruments
• Good knowledge and demonstrated ability to calculate survey formulas and equations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry
• Ability to read, interpret and follow maps, aerial photographs, legal descriptions, and civil engineering and construction plans
• Ability to keep concise survey notations and draw detailed sketches in support of survey work being performed
• Ability to teach and train new employees in the fundamentals of using survey instruments, equipment and basic procedures
• Must be able to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with all working parties
• Ability to perform various labor tasks in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
• This position may consist of standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 50 lbs., bending/stooping, reaching over head, repetitive motions, climbing (ladders, stairs, hills, etc.), wearing personal protective equipment, and driving a company vehicle
• Must be able to perform moderately strenuous tasks (i.e., clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools)
• Must be able to swim and tread water
• Ability exhibit leadership characteristics and oversee the work of others
• Ability to communicate technical information both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work overtime as required or travel out of town for work assignments
• Office work may also be required on an as-needed basis
