The Voter Registration Clerk position resides in the Recorders Department which is responsible for Voter Registration and Early Voting for Pima County. The position is responsible for voter registration, maintaining voter rolls, providing support at early voting sites during elections, ballot processing, signature verification, and providing customer service and education to voters about the applicable voter registration, voting and election laws, rules, regulations, and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the application or incumbent by the supervisor.
- Performs daily tasks to maintain and monitor the county’s voter registration rolls to ensure accuracy and accessibility according to statutory and federal requirements;
- Performs Data Entry of voter forms including voter registration forms, change forms, voter communication, proof of citizenship and other documentation;
- Processes returned mail in compliance with the National Voting Rights Act (NVRA) to ensure accuracy of voting residence;
- Cancels voter registrations due to relocation or death;
- Communicates with voters to ensure the security and accuracy of their voter records;
- Provides exceptional customer service to voters in person, on the phone, and by email;
- Performs daily tasks during Election Season processing requests for early ballots, following strict statutory and federal law regarding procedures, and makes determinations about complicated requests;
- Accounts for and processes returned ballots in accordance with state and federal regulations;
- Verifies signatures for early ballots and petition signatures during the petition process;
- Acts as a Site Captain during Early Voting periods at satellite Early Voting Sites;
- Maintains security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties;
- Maintains the office space and supplies, restocks supplies when necessary, and ensures the working environment is clean and safe at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification and one year of experience performing customer service.

- Experience using data entry software and tools.
- Experience working with sensitive or confidential information.
- Experience with local election laws and/or procedures.
- Experience using strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Supplemental Information
Licenses and Certificates: Current voter registration in Pima County, as required by Arizona State law, is required at time of appointment and must be maintained as a condition of employment. Must obtain and maintain Election Officer Certification (provided by Recorder's Office). Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application. Failure to obtain/maintain the required certification/licensure shall be grounds for termination. Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Special Notice Items: Some positions may be compensated for demonstrable fluency in English and a second language. Employees will be provided with, and must successfully complete, bi-annual Statewide Election Officer Trainings, including passing an exam and signature comparison classes (intermediate and advanced), during employment. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
