Managing Editor

The Uinta County Herald is looking for a new and enthusiastic managing editor to guide the award-winning newspaper's editorial content. Our growing communities offer the perfect environment.

The Uinta County Herald, a twice-weekly community newspaper in Evanston, is looking for our next managing editor to lead our news department. We believe strong community newspapers lead the way and our news content and our editorial page backs up our passion for local news. We are fiercely independent, and our content platform is nearly all local news with every issue. We also publish several special sections the editor supervises and oversees content. The managing editor also oversees two of our nearby sister papers.

Expectations:

· Knowledge of overall newspaper business

· Deadline driven

· Strong editing, writing, designing and pagination skills

· Proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop

· Effective time management and organizational skills

· Basic newswriting and photography required

· Manage people/Direct reports (including overseeing employees at two of our sister papers)

· Be a visible leader in our community and foster good relationships with other leaders in government and business

· Be honest, have integrity and take pride in your work

· Be willing to learn what you don’t already know about newspapers and their operations

The editor is the No. 1 position in our news department and a key member of the management team. We offer a competitive salary — including no state income tax, normal benefits of cost-shared health insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays and vacations.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability

Experience:

• Copy editing: 2 years (Required)
• Adobe Photoshop: 1 year (Required)
• Adobe InDesign: 2 years (Required)
• Writing skills: 2 years (Required)
• Proofreading: 2 years (Required)
