What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Team Lead position at PIPESTONE?
Objective: The SwineHaus FarmTeam Lead is responsible for leading, training, and managing the swine technician on the farm’s iso-wean to market operation by Waterloo IA. Overall, the FarmTeam Lead owns every detail that the FarmTeam technicians are responsible for including but not limited to feed ordering, animal husbandry, market pig selection, loading market pigs, barn setup, ventilation management, inventory records, and facility maintenance.
The best candidate for this position will be self-motivated, able to identify problems in the pig operation and create a viable solution for the team to execute to remedy the problem, and communicate efficiently and effectively to the technicians and the management team of the operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work alongside FarmTeam technicians to achieve results
- Train FarmTeam employees to follow all production protocols and procedures
- Monitor employee performance versus protocols to maximize growing pig production & efficiencies
- Train FarmTeam employees in animal husbandry to reduce stress of all animals on the farm and maximize production
- Maximize the daily tasks of the department to achieve production targets
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with FarmTeam technicians and farm management
- Utilize task sheets and time frames to maintain an organized workday
- Utilize consistent monitoring of task schedules for both yourself and technicians
- Train farm technicians on how their personal performance affects the finances of the entire farm
- Biosecurity Adherence
- Adhere to all biosecurity protocols, train farm staff on biosecurity and monitor employee activity for compliance
- Regularly review site biosecurity with the technicians to ensure compliance
- Regularly review flow biosecurity with the management team to ensure proper execution
- Ventilation Controls
- Monitor and ensure farm ventilation system is in good working order
- Regularly monitor the environment to achieve optimum comfort for the animals
- Train farm technicians to identify ventilation irregularities so FarmTeam Lead can address the problems
- Facility Maintenance
- The facility must be maintained and well kept
- Train and direct farm technicians to complete routine maintenance on a daily basis
- Communicate non-routine repairs to farm management
- Train, direct and monitor staff to keep the farm clean and organized
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education: 2- or 4-year college degree in animal science or similar field of study preferred but not required
Experience: 1 year pig experience preferred
Work Environment:
Agricultural swine environment in rural area
Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
Nursery, Grow/Finish, and Wean to Finish swine care processes
Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day
Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling
Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull
Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move
Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with the assistance of another person as needed
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Must be able to print and/or write legibly
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to work minimum of every third weekend
Must have reliable transportation to get to work and attend meetings
Must have the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in both English and Spanish
Salary : $35,600 - $45,100
