What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Editor position at Pitsco Education?
The Technical Editor I is responsible for developmental editing and copy editing of information in databases, electronic files, online, and hard copies. Other duties include working closely with members of the Development and Marketing teams, handling minor technical writing assignments, and consulting with other technical editors. These tasks are accomplished by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
- Acquiring and maintaining knowledge of Pitsco’s products and curriculum
- Helping to define processes for editing various types of materials in a timely manner
- Working with other technical editors and Editing Coordinator to review projects
- Editing curriculum content, marketing materials, newsletters, miscellaneous written materials, and website content
- Working with developers and technical writers and helping to improve the quality of their work through developmental editing and copy editing
- Editing online in various software programs and applications
- Writing step-by-step instructions
- Working with other editors and writers to maintain the company’s stylebook and Editing department style sheets
- Completing technical writing assignments, such as articles and blog posts
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English or journalism
- One to three years of experience as an editor or editor/writer preferred, but graduates with strong credentials will be considered
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to touch type
- Excellent communication and computer skills with basic knowledge of HTML
- Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat
- Familiarity with tracking or collaboration software programs, such as Office 365 (Teams, SharePoint) and Smartsheet
- Familiarity with robotics coding languages a plus (Java, C, C , Python, and so on)
- Demonstrable knowledge of industry-standard style guides
- Conscientious, results-oriented, and self-motivated worker
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- General office environment
- Ability to be physically mobile with reasonable accommodation including ability to walk, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and stoop
