Job Description

Purpose:  

Responsible for the creation, maintenance, administration and optimization of process and quality control systems and the mill OT network, focused on improving process performance, minimizing process variation, reducing costs, and maintaining network security.  

Key Accountabilities:

  • As a leader in the mill, help ensure all mill employees are “safe from the start” by teaching, coaching and following up to ensure established safe work practices are being followed as well as compliance to federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise in paper manufacturing process/quality control, network, and data management systems, staying abreast of new technology and diagnostic tools
  • Provide leadership and drive improvement of the mill control network and process and quality control/measurement systems
  • Work closely with the operations team to understand needs in the areas of process and quality control and measurement, data availability and data analysis, and help meet those needs
  • Work with E/I group to write and modify computer process control programs to optimize mill controls and establish maintenance procedures and schedules for process control systems
  • Work closely with mill operations and engineering personnel in planning, designing, developing, and implementing new process/quality control applications, improvements, and network upgrades
  • Develop maintenance and operating personnel to take full advantage of the capabilities offered by our distributed control systems and quality control/measurement systems
  • Work with IT to help ensure that process information is readily available for use by operations to make decisions and drive overall process improvement
  • Segment Control Network across highly vertical VLAN structure
  • Perform monitoring and maintenance on Control System Servers and field equipment including vSphere, WSUS, SNMP Traps, WinRM to validate proper performance and resource allocation.
  • Consistently document in a way can be drafted into AutoCAD
  • Troubleshoot communication problems across a wide variety of communication protocols and standards including but not limited to Ethernet, DH , Arcnet, and RS232
  • Assist with robust firewall rules supporting framework of Purdue model with full IDMZ
  • Provide support for capital project planning and implementation

Qualifications

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated history of solid leadership, project management and improvement skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of the papermaking process and systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of statistical methods to reduce process variation
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with people at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a safe and accident-free manner
  • Excellent organization skills

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of  5 years experience
  • Working knowledge of mill DCS/QCS systems
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server environments and with managed switched environment.
  • Familiar with OPC DA with Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of mill data systems, data gathering techniques and statistics
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
