What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compressionist position at Pixelogic Media Partners, LLC?

The Compressionist will be responsible for creating encoded assets for DVD, Blu-Ray, and UHD. Other required tasks include prequalification of source files, tape capture, chaptering and proxy creation. A solid knowledge and experience with various frame rates, resolutions and color spaces is required for this position. The ideal candidate must be able to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced production environment. Providing technical support and troubleshooting is also a necessary skill.

Video and audio compression for packaged media, including DVD, Blu-Ray, and UHD

  • Provide bitrate calculations for client disc profiles and configurations
  • Creation of proxy files for localization (subtitles) and audio conform
  • Chapter stop creation and frame grabs for menu group
  • Editing of source files for revisions
  • Creation of down-conversions from 4K and HD resolutions
  • Frame rate conversions
  • QC of encoded streams for compression and source related issues
  • Tape capture from Digi-Beta and HDCAM SR elements
  • Working closely with internal Authoring and Quality Control departments

Requirements
3 years experience with various video compression codecs, including MPEG-2, AVC, MVC, HEVC, and Dolby-Vision

  • Working knowledge of audio compression codecs, including AC-3 and DTS
  • Experienced with various source formats, such as ProResHQ, ProResXQ and IMF
  • Experienced with various frame rates, resolutions, and color spaces
  • Exstensive use of Sirius Pixels SD and HD video encoders
  • Experienced with UHD compression (HDR 10 and Dolby-Vision) using the Sony HEVC encoder, Sirius Pixels, or ATEME
  • Proficient in the use of FFmpeg, Avisynth, and Virtual Dub is a plus
  • Familiarity and working knowledge with various tools such as DVS Clipster, Colorfront Transkoder, Final Cut, and Adobe Premiere
  • Proficient with Windows and Mac OS
  • Ability to work in a fast paced production environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and apply fixes in a timely manner
