PPCCC is a trusted provider of high-quality, affordable reproductive health care along California’s Central Coast. Each year, PPCCC provides 35,000 people on the central coast with health care services; including sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, vasectomies, and safe and legal abortion care at our six health center locations. PPCCC also provides comprehensive sexuality education programs to help adults and teens make healthy decisions, prevent unintended pregnancies, and avoid sexually transmitted infection.
JOB SUMMARY:
The non-physician advanced practice clinician works in collaboration with other members of the health care team to provide quality routine reproductive health care to Planned Parenthood patients in accordance with PPCCC medical standards and guidelines. Responsibilities of the position expected at the conclusion of their training period include providing services which include but are not limited to; abortion, analgesia and sedation, breast services, cervical cancer screening and management of cervical abnormalities, reversible contraception, emergency contraception, gender affirming care, gynecological conditions, sexually transmitted infections, intimate partner violence, men’s reproductive health conditions, pregnancy complications, pregnancy testing and options counseling, preventative care, recovery area care, ultrasound services, and vaccination services. Responsibilities also include participation in a team approach to patient care by working cooperatively with others to achieve productivity standards while providing exceptional customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Utilize the “SOAP” format for completing medical examination forms, including all appropriate medical findings and recommendations.
- Demonstrate competency in, but not limited to, the following; peer review, quality assurance audits, and laboratory proficiency testing.
- Participate in required staff meetings, conference calls, and mandatory all staff trainings.
- Accurately perform and document comprehensive and focused review of medical history, review of systems, physical exams, ordering/performing/interpreting of appropriate laboratory tests.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge about all medications listed on the PPCCC formulary that are dispensed in house or prescribed for all PPCCC medical services.
- Refer patients with abnormal conditions appropriately per PPCCC protocols.
- Adherence to abnormal clinical finding protocols listed in PPCCC’s Medical Standards and Guidelines as they relate to timing and types of notifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director and/or Senior Director of Medical Services or designee.
CLINICAL SKILLS
All Clinician Is will demonstrate successful completion of the PPCCC Welcome Orientation including EHR and Abortion trainings. Clinician Is will demonstrate the ability to adhere to clinician productivity metrics within 8-12 weeks of start date, including but not limited to:
- Provide age-appropriate screening exams including provision of appropriate vaccination services.
- Provide screening and referrals for Intimate Partner Violence.
- Provide hormonal and non-hormonal contraception consultation and management, including dispensing medications, emergency contraception, IUC/IUS insertion and removal, contraceptive implant insertion and removal, and diaphragm fitting.
- Provide sexually transmitted infection screening and management, including and not limited to STI treatment visits (HSV, GC, CT, Cervicitis, PID, Syphilis, Trichomonas, Genital warts, Molluscum contagiosum, HIV and Hep C). Providers will also provide preventative screening and management regarding PrEP and PEP.
- Provide non-STI related infection diagnosis and treatment including and not limited to Bacterial Vaginosis, Vulvovaginal Candidiasis, Urinary tract infections, Pyelonephritis, Epididymitis, Orchitis, Pediculosis pubis, Scabies, and NGU.
- Diagnose and provide treatment for midlife services, gender affirming care, abortion provision, early pregnancy complication, limited ultrasound provision, medication abortion, evaluation of abortion complications, emergency contraception provision, preventative health screening including cervical and breast cancer screening, limited male reproductive health services and limited infertility services.
- Provide breast cancer screening and management for conditions including and not limited to breast mass, nipple discharge, skin changes, and pain.
- Provide cervical cancer screening and management of abnormal results.
- Diagnose and provider management for patients with gynecological conditions including but not limited to AUB, PCOS, amenorrhea, Bartholin gland, structural changes of the uterus, Bartholin gland abscesses, pelvic masses, dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, pelvic pain, galactorrhea, hirsutism, menopause, vulvar pain, vulvar skin conditions, VAIN, PMS/PMDD.
- Provide Male Reproductive Health services including but not limited to balanitis, penile skin lesions, prostatitis, BPH, scrotal masses, hydrocele, inguinal hernia, spermatocele, testicular torsion, varicocele.
- Perform pregnancy testing and management of pregnancy complication. Demonstrate appropriate options counseling for the patients with unplanned and/or undesired pregnancies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in family planning preferred.
- Ability to relate to patients of all genders with diverse backgrounds in a professional and competent manner.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy to patients accessing sensitive health care services.
- Ability to perform lab screening and vital assessment.
- Ability to physically assist a patient in distress.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- RN license valid in California (Physician Assistant exempt).
- Nurse Practitioner or Clinician training and subsequent experience in reproductive health care.
- Completion of approved Family Planning Nurse Practitioner, Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Care Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery or Physician Assistant program.
- Current California license as Advanced Nurse Practitioner; Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant.
- Certification for advanced practice through a nationally recognized organization.
- Current California Furnishing Number, DEA number optional.
- Current CPR (BLS) licensure, ACLS desirable.
- English/Spanish bilingual skills desirable.
Planned Parenthood California Central Coast’s (PPCCC’s) compensation philosophy supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Each position has a salary based on market value and the organization’s pay levels. Starting pay is $69.01. As part of our commitment to pay equity, PPCCC does not negotiate salaries.
Pay Differential: $1.00/hour bilingual Spanish/English differential pay is offered upon passing the language assessment test.
