Position Summary:
We are seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to join the Director of Equity & Inclusion in propelling and integrating the evolving equity, inclusion and accessibility approach for audience services, with a primary focus on community engagement. This position will specialize in forging new relationships through reciprocal, long-term, and relationship-based community engagement initiatives. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be expected to work in-person at Playwrights Horizons’ midtown location, with the possibility of some days working remotely, and will attend and lead Community Engagement events. This is a part-time position and will work 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, and steward partner organizations, in collaboration with the artistic department for special events (Black Theater Night, Restaurant Workers Night, etc…)
- Partner and build meaningful relationships with community organizations and community members that we seek to serve.
- Develop and collect pre and post event surveys and periodically review survey responses to maintain a pulse of the audience’s perspective
- Compile and share findings and audience trends with key stakeholders across the organization
- In collaboration with the Sales Manager and Marketing & Communications Department, configure ticket codes for special events and work closely to understand and meet the team’s needs for events
- Work with the Accessibility Coordinator to set-up all services necessary for the Community Engagement events, specific to audiences with disabilities.
- Work in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications department to execute the Access Passport vision
- Creatively develop new ways to recruit audience members throughout NYC and the boroughs and conduct outreach via email, phone call, and by physically flyering
- Curate lists of community partners for outreach efforts
- Collaborate with E&I Director on event planning and lead the execution of all community engagement events with support from the community engagement assistant
- Support the full event coordination, including event set-up and break-down, decorating, coordinating catering, serving food and drinks, greeting and tending to guests when they arrive, distributing tickets, etc.
- Maintain the inventory of event supplies and the community engagement calendar
- Additional tasks upon request
Qualifications
- Knowledge/familiarity of city agencies, non-profit organizations and the cultural sector fo NYC
- Embodied practice and values of Social Justice
- Knowledge of accessibility practices
- 1-2 Years of experience in arts organization or relevant organization
- Ability to lift heavy items and assemble tables and chairs
- Must be comfortable on your feet for extended periods of time
- Able to greet new people with confidence and make them feel welcome in the space
- Event experience preferred
- Multi-lingual preferred but not required
- Exceptional project management and communication skills
Schedule & Pay:
This position will work 20 hours per week and will be paid $24 per hour. The schedule will vary based on the event schedule for the season. This position will be able to work remotely at certain times.
