We are currently seeking a per diem Ergonomics Specialist to join our on-site wellness team.
This position can be located in Jersey City, NJ; Dallas, TX; or Salt Lake City, UT.
Job Overview:
The Ergonomist will liaise with other ergonomists to share best practices and help raise the overall level of innovation and service for Optum workplace Wellbeing. The primary responsibility is to provide ergonomic services leveraging the current protocols on-site at our client. Through providing these services the Ergonomist will need to recognize repetitive motions or extreme physical stress in workplaces that can result in musculoskeletal issues and other health concerns, and determine what aspects within employee environments affect job performance, or safety recommending solutions to provide increased comfort and decreased physical strain, or risk of hazards while on the job. The Ergonomist will also perform workplace risk assessments, assess work environments, analyze how employees use either the equipment currently provided or new equipment, and use assessment results to identify areas for improvement. This position will also liaise with the client’s Corporate Workplace Solutions, Procurement, and Engineering teams in the development of workplace desk, office standards, equipment standards and suppliers, and, when necessary, integration of solutions into the firm’s engineering platforms.
This role will also require interaction with the firm’s Medical Leave of Absence team for medical cases that may require accommodations to the work environment. These may be short term medical conditions, chronic disease or long-term disabilities such as physical impairment.
Additionally, responsibilities may include but are not limited to developing and delivering ergonomic training programs; participating in ergonomic focused projects; analysis and reporting, serving on wellness committees; and communicating at all levels within the organization both verbally and written.
What you will do:
- Performs workstation and work task evaluations in order to identify and correct ergonomic issues associated with those workstations and tasks. Uses widely accepted ergonomic metrics to quantify and document issues and control efficacies
- Participates in the conduct of departmental and firm wide programs designed to promote safety and eliminate unsafe acts (with an emphasis on ergonomic issues)
- Contributes to an effective Ergonomics Program at Optum Workplace Well-being sites through following sound program elements, policies, procedures and approaches dealing with ergonomic issues and work-related musculoskeletal injuries
- Recommends effective ergonomic control strategies to abate concerns and is cognizant of related budget constraints
- Documents case notes in compliance with established standard operating procedures or regulation
- Provides support to other Wellness or client committees
- Assists in the ergonomic and/or safety presentation of client’s new employee orientation as needed
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree required. Prefer degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering Physical or Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum one-year experience with ergonomic assessments.
- Professional certification preferred. Ability to achieve a certification within one month of hire required.
- Proficiency in the use of various ergonomic equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Limited travel may be required
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong organizational skills / attention to detail

Salary : $56,300 - $71,300
