What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Officer position at Poly Prep Country Day School?
Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Security Officer. The primary role of Security Officer is to serve a diverse school community while providing a safe and secure environment for students and all who work or visit our campuses. The position hours are Monday to Friday - 2PM to 10PM. Hours may be subject to change due to school functions and needs of the department/institution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
*Certain responsibilities may depend on the shift and campus the role is assigned to.
Maintain a security log and write comprehensive, detailed reports on what was observed while on duty.
Monitor video surveillance equipment, school fire and burglar alarm systems to ensure campus and facilities are safe and secure.
Control facility access for employees, visitors, vendors and contractors (have visitors sign in/out via Raptor System), issue visitors badges and occasionally escort visitors throughout the building.
Respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to students and employees.
Responsible for completing incident reports as needed.
Conduct rounds in/out of the building during the shift to ensure that all doors/ gates are locked.
Set and unset alarms to campus buildings.
Accompany students/classes traveling to outdoor activities and nearby parks. (Lower School)
Maintain knowledge of Poly Prep's policies, procedures and protocols.
Maintain knowledge of the building public address system, fire evacuation routes, fire panel and burglar alarm systems.
Maintain knowledge of Crisis Manual and Security handbook.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Security, Transportation & Emergency Preparedness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Must have work experience in a school setting.
Specific Skills: Technology, beginner to intermediate computer skills required. Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Knowledge of basic methods of providing site security and safety including the following:
Knowledge of conducting fire and safety drills (lockdown, lockout, evacuation drills) as per Crisis Manual and department manual guidelines and protocols.
Strong oral communication skills, human relations and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate detecting systems
Knowledge of CCTV systems
Certifications/Licenses:
NY State Department of Security Guard License required
REQUIREMENTS
Certifications/Licenses: If a candidate does not have these below at time of hire, they will be required and an outlined timeframe will be laid out with the employee upon their first week.
F07 - Fire and emergency drill conductor. (Preferred)
F03 - Indoor place of assembly safety personnel. (Preferred)
F01 – Fire Guard for Impairment (Citywide) (Preferred)
Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in adverse weather conditions.
Integrity and professionalism.
Requirement: All employees must be fully vaccinated and show proof of their full COVID 19 vaccination and booster.
Hourly Wage: $18.00 to $25.00 per hour
