 Position Summary:

The IT Infrastructure Administrator serves as an administrative and support resource for POLYWOOD's IT infrastructure technologies such as server systems, storage systems, data center systems, backup and disaster recovery, cloud infrastructure, and support of other technological systems as assigned. The ITIA is responsible for leading in the implementation and administration of server compute, storage, and virtualization technologies, but also working with IT operations in the support of networking department leadership to manage and monitor infrastructure technology to ensure that industry best practices are implemented and followed. Additionally, the ITIA is responsible for analyzing and monitoring the evolving security landscape of the physical and virtualized server space, working with department leadership to implement countermeasures as necessary. The ITIA is also a leading voice for backup and disaster recovery administration, as well as the administration of data center technology such as power and fire suppression. 


The ITIA reports directly to the Director of IT, and is responsible for advising the department leadership on infrastructure technologies and assisting in identifying and prioritizing infrastructure initiatives. This position requires building SOPs and counseling peers in the execution of SOPs and best practices of administering technical infrastructure. As needed, the ITIA will need to assist peers in day to day service of the network, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 business applications to ensure internal customer needs are met in a timely fashion. Administration of infrastructure systems and working with peers to ensure maximum 

Infrastructure performance to internal customers is a primary day to day duty. 


As needed, the ITIA must work closely with the Systems Administration team in managing the Windows Server environment to ensure maximum uptime and performance of both infrastructure and business application services. Partnership with DevOps team in administering cloud infrastructure will be a routine expectation. Assist in management of vendor and partner relationships for the purpose of systems support and administration. The ITIA must work well within team environments as well with organizational leadership to drive innovation forward and ensure maximum ROI of new and existing IT systems. 

The IT Infrastructure Administrator must be self driven, focused, and goal oriented in the successful execution of projects and day to day responsibilities. Critical thinking under pressure and advanced troubleshooting is a component of day to day workload, and proven history of these skill sets is necessary.


Knowledge of physical and virtual server concepts, topologies and protocols such as hypervisors, NFS, clustering, iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Multicasting, etc. With 3 years of progressive responsibility in managing, deploying, and designing server, storage, disaster recovery environments is required with 8 years of experience working within enterprise IT. Strong understanding of networking, Linux, and Microsoft Server technologies is preferred. Must have proven experience in securing, monitoring, capacity planning, and implementing server, storage, and virtualization products and systems. 


The applicant must show excellent emotional maturity and enjoy working in teams, with the ability to maintain healthy relationships with peers and leadership. Must be willing to occasionally work off hours during maintenance windows, as well as occasionally share the responsibility of providing high availability to 2nd/3rd shift associates if service outages occur. This is a hybrid position dictated by project workload.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Director of IT for project workload. 
  • Share responsibility within the Systems Administration team in implementing, maintaining, supporting, and scaling POLYWOOD’s logical network, physical and virtual server, storage, data center systems, business application, manufacturing systems, and other technology solutions, as assigned. 
  • Lead in the monitoring and maintaining data center systems such as battery backup, generator, air conditioning, fire suppression systems, etc. 
  • Perform proactive analysis of issues and capacity management to ensure continued uptime of assigned systems such as server, storage, virtual systems, data center etc. 
  • Work with contractors, partners, or other POLYWOOD associates to support, maintain, or implement IT infrastructure systems, business application systems, or construction projects, as assigned. 
  • Create, manage, mature, and utilize SOPs pertaining to IT Infrastructure systems and processes. 
  • When necessary, perform root cause analysis on server, storage, virtual systems, or other systems assigned.
  • As needed, backfill Network Administrator in day to day execution of Service Desk administration to ensure internal customer needs are met in a timely fashion.
  • Evaluate and provide input to the Director of IT regarding industry best practices pertaining to assigned systems administration workload and timeframes for resolution or implementation. 
  • Update IT department leadership on key technological system events, and communicate to IT department leadership what technological systems are introducing significant technical debt to the IT Systems Administration team. 
  • Work with department leadership and peers in reviewing and implementing preventive maintenance tasks for the storage subsystem, physical and virtual servers, data center technology and other technologies as assigned. 
  • Work with department leadership to continually evaluate assigned IT systems to ensure that systems are aligned and performing to business needs, and are being effectively utilized for maximum ROI. 
  • Perform knowledge sharing with exemplary documentation and diagrams on assigned systems and issue resolutions. 
  • Occasionally participate in on-call workload with IT department leadership and staff. 
  • Effectively communicate with peers and department leaders when planned or unplanned maintenance or downtime occurs. At times after-hours support may be required. 
  • Effectively champion new technological solutions, promote technology initiatives, and advocate strongly for project benefits as they relate to improvement of business continuity, efficiency, or cost reduction. 
  • Work with the IT Security Team and peers in evaluating the security landscape of assigned systems and prioritization of implementing security initiatives according to organizational and industry best practices. 
  • Provide constructive feedback and dialog regarding documentation maintained or created by IT department peers, when necessary. 
  • Manage the full technology lifecycle for IT infrastructure related systems, from procural of equipment to disposal, as assigned. 
  • Work with department leadership and peers in reviewing and implementing automation and scripted solutions that increase reliability of assigned systems or generate technological efficiencies. 
  • As needed, assist peers on the implementation, management, maintenance, and support of POLYWOOD’s tier 1 and tier 2 business systems, software applications, endpoints and Microsoft server technologies. 

Requirements

 

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • 8 years experience within the Information Technology industry with progressive growth in knowledge and responsibilities.
  • Proven history of ability to perform critical thinking under pressure and advanced troubleshooting on network, server, and business applications systems. 
  • Knowledge of server and storage technologies and protocols such as baseboard component software, Software Defined Storage, NFS, iSCSI, RAID, SMB, NTFS, etc. with 3 years of progressive responsibility in administering, monitoring, and deploying such systems in enterprise environments is required. 
  • Experience with networking topologies and protocols such as TCP/IP, STP, Trunking, Multicasting, DHCP, and VLAN tagging a plus. 
  • Strong understanding and experience managing server, storage, and virtualization technologies is preferred. Technologies such as HCI and SAN storage solutions, vSphere, or Hyper-V. 
  • Comfortable with Microsoft server technologies such as Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, RDS, a plus. 
  • Linux server administration experience is a plus. 
  • Experience with SaaS and cloud technologies (Azure/AWS/GCP) a plus. 
  • Past experience working within a service desk role is preferred.
  • Shows exemplary interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with department peers and other company associates. 
  • Must enjoy collaborating within a team, yet work independently while providing high levels of communication with peers in a fast-moving and constantly changing environment.
