The Certified Nursing Assistant performs fundamental nursing tasks and procedures under the direction of the Licensed Practical Nurse and/or Registered Professional Nurse. Primarily performing personal care and restorative procedures, the Certified Nursing Assistant is an important part of the nursing team. Tasks may vary from total performance of personal care/activities of daily living for a resident to assisting residents to gain more independence in self performance of those activities.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Ability to comply with HIPPA guidelines and regulations.
- Ability to maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Administrator, Medical Director and other physicians, consultants, temporary nursing agencies, and other facility department managers.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, understanding, and tact in interactions with residents, families and staff.
- Ability to mentally cope with sudden changes in census, inappropriate or combative residents, and with emotionally taxing resident or family situations occurring secondary to illness, trauma or death.
- Ability to demonstrate calm professional manner in the event of emergency.
- Ability to read and follow written English.
- Ability to follow verbal communications.
- Ability to understand written and spoken English, to remember and understand the written and spoken word.
- Ability to problem-solve with a variety of variables and accurately interpret instructions.
- Must be able to communicate with all educational levels and display good human relations.
- Must be able to perform duties in an atmosphere of constant interruptions.
- Ability to learn technical material and equipment.
- Ability to enter and obtain information from a computer.
- Ability to read and follow established facility policy, nursing service policy and procedures, and standards of practice and care.
- Must be able to remember words, numbers, procedures and pieces of information.
- Must be able to organize and maintain flexible scheduling to coordinate all job responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Must hold a certificate documenting successful completion of nurse aide training course approved by the Illinois Board of Educators or be exempt having established equivalency as defined by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation enabling him/her to practice as a C.N.A. in the state of Illinois.
- Must be listed on the registry in the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, or be eligible to be listed.
