TITLE: Bus Driver/Custodian PROGRAM: Head Start
CLASS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Center Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY: Performs all school bus duties safely; responsible for the overall cleanliness of the center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS BUS DRIVER:
1. It is the responsibility of each driver to:
a) Secure service only at EOA designated locations;
b) Use warranty‑covered service where available;
c) Report any unbecoming behavior of passenger;
d) Make Transportation Manager aware of any mechanical problems;
e) Turn in transportation forms at the end of the work week completed;
f) Follow designated routes in performing services;
g) Maintain a list of all passengers
2. Perform CDL pre‑trip/post-trip inspection per route.
3. At the end of each day, check speedometer mileage, record miles driven, fuel and sweep bus after AM route.
4. Each driver is expected to attend training, in-service meetings, etc.
5. Each driver is expected to observe all traffic laws.
6. Always courteous to all passengers.
7. Provide transportation only to those who are designated to use the service.
8. Drive vehicles to shop when instructed.
9. Drive on Field Trips when instructed (in and out of area).
10. Provide and assist in maintaining and developing a safe and healthy learning environment for all children, including children with disabilities.
11. Promote a comprehensive preschool early childhood program with full services to all children, families and extended families, which include Social Service, Parent Involvement, Health, Nutrition, Education, Disabilities and Mental Health.
12. Wash assigned vehicle at least twice a year on the inside.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS CUSTODIAN:
1. Sweep and mop center floors.
2. Vacuum carpets.
3. Assist in cleaning of classrooms.
4. Empty garbage and trash cans daily.
5. Keep yard, playground areas free from litter and preform playground safety check daily using Bright form the Start checklist.
6. Maintain a neat and orderly supply closet/cabinet.
7. Inform Center Coordinator of custodial supply needs.
8. Dust, wash windows, blinds and walls periodically (once per month).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be able to pass initial drug test and undergo an annual physical as well as a random drug screening.
2. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
3. Must have a knowledge and ability to use various cleaning compound and chemicals.
4. Must know how to read road maps.
5. Must be able to work with pre-school children and families
6. Must be physically fit for children activities indoors and outdoors.
7. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
8. No traffic violations within the last three (3) years.
9. Must have a valid Georgia Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A/B with SP passenger Endorsement and air brake restriction.
10. Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, parents, and persons from a variety of ethnic, educational, and socio‑economic backgrounds.
11. Able to exercise discretion and sound judgement in the performance of assigned duties.
12. Must be able to relate positively to adults and young children.
13. Willing to attend evening meetings when necessary.
14. Must be able to fill out transportation forms on the computer.
