Position Details
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Administrator, the Community Agent provides assistance in developing an effective working relationship between parents, schools, home and community groups.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides initial intake and assist with assessment.
2. Provides interpretation and translation services as requested by supervisor.
3. Provides interpretation by telephone, on site and during home visits.
4. Attends, assists and facilitates Parent/Teacher conferences as requested.
5. Develops and presents cultural events.
6. Provides classroom and individual instructional support and assistance upon request.
7. Provides appropriate referrals (and follow-up) to outside agencies.
8. Provides technical assistance and support to District staff in culturally appropriate services to limited English proficient students.
9. Provides advisement services to students and their families.
10.Enters, maintains and uses data in the student tracking database.
11.Perform home visits, data management, record keeping, recruitment and enrollment of children, information and referral, track attendance and follow-up.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years, full time, college coursework (72 Quarter Credits or 48 Semester Credits) to meet the ESEA requirements (official transcripts must be provided prior to hire). -OR- Completion of the Para Professional exam with passing score upon recommendation for hire.
Proven experience working and supporting culturally and linguistically diverse students and families.
An understanding of language and cultural barriers facing language minority students and parents.
Knowledge of classroom practices, procedures and school operations.
Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student and District information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in office technology and computer programs (e.g., email, Microsoft word, presentation programs, Google documents).
Ability to work flexible schedule to accommodate evening trainings & meetings.
Proficiency/familiarity using complex database systems.
Prior experience delivering workshops and information sessions.
Have strong analytical and problem solving skills to assist families and school staff appropriately with minimum supervision.
Knowledge and experience related to student enrollment, transfer and placement of students in appropriate programs.
Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy of all data entry, correspondence, lists, reports and agreements.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team setting. Willingness to share information and duties and support other staff.
Ability to work effectively, multi-task and cope with constant interruptions in a fast-paced environment at multiple locations with limited supervision.
Experience in case management.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this classification may require the use of a dependable personal transportation and possession of a valid driver’s license.
HOURLY RATE: $19.26 - $23.31
WORK YEAR: 192 days
