Responsibilities
Provide regulatory support to the company as it pertains to food manufacturing. This position will interact with other departments to assure product labels, technical documents, and customer specifications comply with government regulations, company policies and standard practices.
JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES
- Serve as resource for the Business to Business stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Graphics, customers) to provide regulatory guidance on labels, claims, and customer-specific requirements
- Develop and maintain quality and regulatory documents for use in customer communication
- Review and provide regulatory guidance on package graphics. Work with graphics and customers to ensure packages comply with FDA and CFIA regulations
- Engage with PCB Legal to inform customers of potential litigation risks
- Create and revise ingredient statements and nutrition facts panels as required
- Work with Product Development to ensure product complies with FDA and CFIA regulations, and with programs such as CFBAI, WIC, USDA School Breakfast, military, etc.
- Provide accurate and timely responses to technical inquiries
- Support new product and product improvement projects as needed
- Gather and enter quality and regulatory information into customer portals as needed
- Other duties and projects as assigned by manager
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in life sciences (nutrition, biology, food science) or food safety is required
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in food regulatory affairs. Knowledge of food and ingredient standards and FDA food labeling regulations. Some experience with Canadian and International labeling regulations preferred.
Skills: Must have advanced organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work. Results-oriented with strong attention to detail and meets deadlines. Good problem solving skills with the emphasis on presenting solutions. A team player with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates good judgment, initiative, and works with a sense of urgency. Excellent computer skills including the use of database systems are needed, as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language.
JOB COMPLEXITY
Relationships:
Internal: Work with R&D, Quality & Food Safety, Sales, Marketing, Graphics, Legal and Consumer Affairs
External: Work with corporate customers, vendors, and external laboratories. Attend technical seminars as needed
Problem solving: Assess needs and make recommendations addressing customer requirements and regulatory compliance.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITY
Work structure: Work under the direction of the Regulatory Manager and/or Senior Regulatory Scientist.
Responsibilities: Manage projects within a given time frame. Provide technical information and perspective on nutrition facts panels, claims, nutrition validation laboratory analysis, new products, and ingredients. Provide current and accurate product-related information to internal and external customers which meets their needs.
