What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Appraiser position at Pottawatomie County?
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Pottawatomie County Field Supervisor, the Field Appraiser is a non-exempt position under FLSA. Primary responsibilities include the gathering and analyzing of information regarding county real estate, personal property and assisting with general office duties when necessary. Employee should be able to perform work assignments independently with only occasional supervision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The employee must possess a thorough knowledge of the State Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal Orion Valuation System and data entry within one year of employment. This employee must be able to operate a computer, typewriter, photocopier, telephone system, and other office equipment with a high degree of accuracy. The employee must have the ability to read and interpret reports, files, and written instructions, and strong communication skills. The employee must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent. The employee must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The employee must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Required Education and Experience:
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required. Employee is required to attend education courses on property valuation, data collection, or other courses as assigned by the County Appraiser for continuing education purposes. To maintain this position, the employee must be able to pass several required courses as given from the Property Valuation Department of the Department of Revenue and the International Association of Assessing Officers within the required number of years of employment that vary from 2 years to 4 years, depending on the class.
Required Knowledge:
- Considerable knowledge of and experience with computers and software applications as assigned.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Problem solving is involved in this position. Problems this employee may encounter include determining correctness of data listing and measurements of improvements. Also, this employee may encounter problems with complaints from the general public, uncooperative property owners, and threatening animals.
- Decision making is a factor in this position. Decisions this employee may encounter include assuring that the information and data is accurate.

Must have and maintain a clean driving record for this position. A “clean” record is defined as: No misdemeanor or felony convictions for traffic/vehicular offenses (such as, but not limited to, DUI, vehicular homicide, reckless driving, hit and run, etc.) that are less than five (5) years old; no more than two (2) at fault or chargeable accidents that are less than five (5) years old; no more than two (2) traffic infractions (such as, but not limited to, speeding, failure to yield right of way, etc.) that are less than one year old.
