The impact you will have…
The Digital Strategist works closely with the Communications & Narrative Director and Senior Narrative Manager to lead, develop, and implement Power California’s 501(c)3 and its sibling 501(c)(4) nonprofit, PowerCA Action’s digital campaign and narrative strategies to support the organization’s goals and strategic plan. This role is responsible for the management of Power California’s 501(c)3 and its sibling 501(c)(4) nonprofit, PowerCA Action’s social media channels, content creation, and tracking and assessment of growth. This role works in collaboration with field, policy, and membership departments to ensure content and strategy is in alignment with organizing and policy goals. They will collaborate and support in training Power California’s statewide alliance partners to execute strategies.
How you will spend your days…
Digital and Social Media Management (35%)
- Manages 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 entities’ social media and content strategy across various platforms including Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook.
- Manages the social media calendar for all channels; organizes or creates necessary content to reach potential supports and move them the ladder of engagement.
- Builds our base of supporters through digital advertising, organic social media, and other digital tools.
- Supports social media channel growth including tracking, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of our social media strategy using analytics.
- Develops digital toolkits for sharing our content with Power California Alliance partners, including uploading graphics into folders for download, sending reminders to our partners and allies about timing to post, and supporting partners in adapting content as needed.
Content Production (25%)
- Creates and produces strategic digital content for Power California’s & PowerCA Action’s social media channels to further narrative and organizing priorities, including graphics, memes, and videos.
- Drafts written copy for social posts, online ads, email blasts, and similar channels/vehicles.
- Oversees multiple contracted content creators to ensure materials match the organizational brand and voice.
Digital Campaign and Narrative Strategy (30%)
- Develops digital campaign and narrative strategy plans for both Power California 501(c)3 and PowerCA Action 501(c)4 entities’ electoral and policy campaigns and membership programs.
- Supports the Communications & Narrative Director and Senior Narrative Manager to develop narrative framing and key messaging for campaigns and membership programs, in collaboration with field, policy, and membership departments.
- Engages alliance partners in social media strategies, including offering trainings to strengthen their social media capacity and participation.
- Leads, supports, and implements messaging and spokespeople training for partners, allies, and staff.
- Stays on top of current events and social media trends; identifies opportunities to advance our message and visibility.
Narrative Department Support (10%)
- Supports additional communications work and digital projects as assigned, including story collection, training and capacity building of partners, and earned media and other communications efforts, as needed.
- Supports writing, copy editing, and review of materials and written content, as needed.
- Supports media handling, media requests and media tracking, as needed.
What you bring…
- 2 years’ experience in digital content creation and strategy with demonstrated success in growing social media channels.
- Excellence and creative vision to design, create, and edit digital materials including but not limited to graphics, memes, and videos.
- Outstanding writing skills and ability to draft content that matches a branding guide and style.
- Experience implementing effective digital strategies, including familiarity with digital ad campaigns via Facebook/Instagram, Google ads, YouTube and other digital advertising platforms, with a strong eye for design and trends relevant to young people of color.
- Nonprofit, fundraising, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4), grass roots, lobbying experience
- Excellent time management and organization; works well both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with shifting timelines
- Experience working/partnering with young people of color, low-income, immigrants and refugees and/or LGBTQIA communities
- Strong computer literacy, including experience in Microsoft Suite and Google Docs
- Ability to consistently act and interact with integrity, compassion and openness to feedback
- Excellent ability to communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Some evenings and weekends required, primarily during campaign seasons
- Has cell phone with adequate data plan and home internet connection with adequate speed

Travel Requirements:
Travel occurs within California and nationally, for periods of 1 to 4 days at a time, 5 to 10 times per year
