What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Engineering position at Power/mation?
Power/mation is seeking a full-time Director of Engineering for our Solutions Group in our St. Paul office. This individual will provide strategic direction and focused leadership for the business development of Powermation Solutions Group and their growth initiatives. Manages the Powermation Solutions Group staff to profitably sell engineering, fabrication, and assembly services that assist the sale of Powermation's hardware and software products, including:
- Turn key solutions
- Programming & Software Services
- Start up assistance & Systems Integration
- Control panel assembly
- Assemblies and Component modification
Key Result Areas:
- Provides leadership to foster an environment of teamwork and open communication. Responsible for maintaining a positive, productive work environment and promoting a customer focused culture and climate among the Powermation Solutions Group staff. Promotes the Company mission and vision. Monitor department work flow.
- Adheres to the responsibilities common to all managers and supervisors. Provides leadership to the Powermation Solutions Group staff including effective coaching, establishing performance objectives and expectations, and provides feedback. Conducts timely performance and salary reviews for assigned personnel. Provides counseling and development of employees. Responsible for the initial and ongoing training needs of assigned staff. Participates in the selection of new employees.
- Develops and implements plans to grow the Powermation Solutions Group component of the business including integration and other services related to customer needs.Communicates change impacting Powermation Solutions Group department duties and implements procedures. Ensures that policies and procedures are understood and followed by assigned staff. Conducts departmental meetings on a regular basis to communicate policies and procedures and to address questions and concerns. Prepares agenda, distributes meeting minutes and plans action items for follow-up.
- Facilitates problem-solving sessions to resolve concerns, works through opportunities for improvement and responds to quality corrective actions.
- Plan and conduct customer sales calls with sales reps related to value added business opportunities and assist with the following. Assess customer automation needs, prepare customer quotes, help sales reps to close orders and follow up on all related activities.
- Assists sales reps in selling services that Power/mation buys from third party integrators or projects from which Power/mation receives commission.
- Makes recommendations to the President for changes and improvements to promote efficiency, accuracy, faster service and lower costs.
- Creates annual budget for Powermation Solutions Group LLC and manages department within fiscal guidelines. Adheres to budget and approves expenses within level of authority. Assesses capital and other resources necessary to provide smooth, cost effective operations.
- Responsible for internal procedures to design and build of internal production for specific customers and Power/mation Solutions Group branded products.
- Responsible for the design of standard engineered products through internal or external resources.
- Responsible for managing resources for:
- Design, documentation and implementation of electrical control systems, control panels, and general automation projects.
- Programming motion control systems, programmable logic controllers, operator interface panels, PC control software, RFID systems, tension control systems, and vision systems.
- The development and growth of managerial staff reporting to the Director of Engineering (general manager)
- Metrics & growth of the individual regions or business units, including margin, sales, and profitability
- Travel to job sites for installations and service calls.
- Responsible for programming services of Power/mation products.
- Responsible for creating and managing a project file system and establishing engineering processes and procedures.
- Continually acquire deeper knowledge of Power/mation products, and enhance sales and presentation skills.
- Provides Engineering manager with strategic direction and guidance over appropriate project management practices and appropriate project management documentation
- Design and development of Powermation Solutions Group business forms, Agreements, Design Standards
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree. 5 years Systems Integration engineering experience. 5 years engineering experience with motion control, programmable logic controllers and motor control design, programming and implementation; CAD experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Promis*e or equivalent electrical controls/schematic generating software; electrical controls; experience with Discrete Automated Equipment; experience with technical writing of conceptual engineering solutions, project specifications and finished systems documentation is highly desirable; experience with vision systems desirable.
