Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build a skilled, collaborative, and engaged team, training, motivating and coaching appropriately.
  • Prioritize, coordinate and communicate assignments to ensure productivity and deliver high-quality products.
  • Anticipate, plan and recommend space, tooling, and staffing needs to be required.
  • Track and order tooling and general shop items, and submit parts purchase requests, to optimize productivity, expected quantities, and inventory locations.
  • Prepare work by reviewing prints, instructions, specifications, and parts lists, checking for errors and updates. Guide others to gather parts, tools, materials as needed.
  • Assist finished parts and raw materials to their proper destination.
  • Monitor and track machine maintenance needs and tooling conditions. Schedule service as applicable.
  • Track waste coolant, chip barrels, and hoppers for removal or replacement.
  • Guide and resolve team members’ questions and problems. Answer questions brought by other departments and bring challenges to the manager when appropriate.
  • Communicate significant product, process, quality, or safety concerns to the manager immediately.
  • Use computer for email communication, to check inventory in CRM, and other duties and systems as assigned. Complete required reports, documentation, and approvals.
  • Participate in Lean initiatives. Recommend and help implement improvements.
  • Write, update and communicate department procedures, checklists, and instructions.
  • Participate in meetings, and hold department meetings, as expected. Offer insights, solicit and address team member input. Communicate upward as appropriate.
  • Achieve short and long-term department goals by leading and maintaining ongoing goal setting, employee development, and performance feedback, being open to constructive feedback from others.
  • Take ownership for self-development and achieve leadership development goals. Provide ongoing feedback with the manager on personal and the team’s progress against goals.
  • Participate in the department’s hiring and corrective personnel decisions. Oversee department schedules.
  • May perform hands-on work, as needed, approximately 25% of the time.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment. Actively participate in the company safety program.
  • Ensure department compliance with company policies and procedures. Demonstrate company values.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise employees in the CNC Machining Department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Power Test’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems from department Team Leaders (Assembly, Fabrication, Electronics, Scheduling & Quality, and Materials)

Qualifications

  • Gibbs programming with Solidworks ideal.
  • Must have the ability to operate a forklift, cranes, and hoists.
  • Strong math and blueprint reading skills, and use of technical instructions.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to effectively lead teams and earn respect are a necessity.
  • The employee may be required to drive on occasion and must have a valid driver’s license and be covered under the company’s insurance policy.
  • Have strong logic, problem-solving, decision-making, and judgment to generate solutions and deliver excellent results to technical and personnel challenges.
  • Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills desired, as well as a knowledge of Inventory Management Systems or ERP systems (Preferably Visual Manufacturing)
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating various types of manual and CNC machines, particularly using Mazak, Fanuc, and Mazatrol controls, and G&M codes.

Education and/or Experience

A completed state apprenticeship plus 8 years experience, or equivalent, and skilled with precision measuring and inspection devices.

Knowledge of, and ability to teach, characteristics of metals, heat treating, plating, machine tool selection, and machining techniques, and how this impacts overall product quality and efficiency.

Work Environment

The employee works in a manufacturing assembly environment and is occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals. He/she is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
