JOB TITLE: Farm Coordinator/R&D Technician CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SUMMARY
The Farm Coordinator/R&D Technician hybrid position will organize and maintain the research farms, while assisting researchers in animal studies and laboratory duties. This position will provide maintenance duties as needed at research farm locations. Additionally, this position will perform basic molecular biology and microbiology experiments.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Reports to: Technology Transfer Manager
Supervises: Has no supervisory responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily functions of the research farms (swine and bovine, other species may occasionally be necessary), including: general animal welfare & husbandry, feed, water, health observations, cleaning.
- Receive, process and record study animals’ arrival and disposition.
- Work with various animals and pathogens in a Biosafety level 2 environment.
- Coordinate research studies with R&D team and assist in sampling and treatments.
- Collect, maintain, and organize data in the form of a laboratory notebook, bench record, animal record, electronic project database, and/or production record.
- Maintain farm equipment or general maintenance procedures to meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Assist and lead in the daily functions of the laboratory.
- Analyze data/results and provide suggestions for next steps.
- Conduct assigned projects, experiments, or departmental activities to meet the project goals and timelines.
- Independently lead assigned projects, set project goals, and develop project timelines.
- Provide support in the development of vaccines; including but not limited to process development, assay development and testing procedures.
- Ability to follow SOP’s in an efficient and accurate manner.
- Interact with lab personnel, as well as other departments within the company.
- Must be able to conduct assignments with limited supervision and accurately communicate results to their supervisor.
- Work in a safe and productive manner with the guidelines established by policy and follow good laboratory practices.
- Accountable for complying with the company handbook and all policies set by the company and delegated authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- The position requires experience working in a production environment with swine and cattle. Vet tech background or degree in Microbiology or Agriculture is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- The candidate should be familiar with the principle of veterinary biologics, research and development of biologics, diagnostic assays, vaccine production, quality control and regulatory agencies.
- The position requires good verbal and written skills, and good manufacturing, laboratory, and clinical practices.
