Job Description
The Information Technology (IT) Network Architect, under direction, manages enterprise network architecture, design, integration, configuration, and implementation of computer networks, local area networks, wide area networks, internet, intranet, cloud, convergence, and other data communication systems. This position is grant-funded or supported by restricted funding. Continued employment is contingent upon the renewal of the grant or restricted funding source.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the design activities for enterprise level network projects. Approves network design plans. Approves and tests methods and plans used to certify complex networking projects to required installation design standards. Work with end users (faculty/researchers) to identify their research needs and design solutions to fit their needs. Establishes protocols and processes for problem management and support. Continuously monitors effectiveness of established processes and protocols.
  • Establishes standards for the development of plans for new networks or upgrades. Oversees input from clients, systems administrators, contractors, and vendors to develop specifications and plans for enterprise-wide networks. Establishes the standards and processes used to document network engineering designs, and plans and maps methods, procedures, problems, and repairs. Establishes enterprise level standards for the implementation of new technology deployments and system integration testing.
  • Assists establishing procedures for compliance with enterprise and state network security regulations. Oversees the enterprise processes for the evaluation of new technologies. Makes technical recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Collaborates with project leaders and executive staff to develop work plan and time schedules for projects including outlining phases, identifying personnel, and computing equipment requirements.
  • PCI DSS Program adherence, IT standards and best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field.
  • Ten years of related experience in network engineering, routing and switching, wireless projects, network protocols, encryption, topologies, overall system integration/convergence, and/or video and data convergence, integrating systems in multi-user, multiplatform, and multitasking operating system environments.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of interior and exterior routing and switching protocols, domain name system (DNS), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), proxy functions, security protocols, time protocols, tag and label switching, real-time protocols for voice and/or wide area network (WAN) communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and storage area network (SAN) solutions in network, security, and computing.
  • Knowledge of network system analysis and design techniques for voice (wireless and wired), video, and data.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of IT architecture, application of systems theory, advanced negotiation skills, enterprise-level operations, multi-team leadership and coordination, advanced project management, advanced vendor relations, advanced business acumen, and change management.
  • Knowledge of interior and exterior routing and switching protocols, domain name system (DNS), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), proxy functions, security protocols, time protocols, tag and label switching, real-time protocols for voice and/or wide area network (WAN) communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and storage area network (SAN) solutions in network, security, and computing. Knowledge of network system analysis and design techniques for voice (wireless and wired), video, and data.
  • Knowledge of firewalls.
  • CCNP, CCIE or related certifications preferred.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
