Propane Specialist - Prairieland FS, Inc. - Eastern Sangamon County, IL

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
This position will both market and deliver propane in Sangamon County.
Requirement: The Propane Specialist must obtain CTEP certification from the Illinois Propane Gas Association within 3 months of employment. It is strongly preferred that the Propane Specialist live within the geography assigned when the employment opportunity is presented.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Market and deliver energy products and services at profitable levels to patrons and target prospects in designated territory. This will be accomplished by the following:
1. Showing a caring attitude towards the individual and individual's operation.
2. Thorough knowledge of the customer's operations, needs, concerns and goals.
3. Become established as the leading problem solver in the trade area.
4. Work together as a key member within the Prairieland FS Team.
5. Being positive and enthusiastic when dealing with customers and employees.
Selling efficiency & skills - Utilize and always work to improve the following:
1. The FS Sales interview road map.
2. Understanding customer behavior styles.
3. Maintain a target customer list and call on prospective customers to grow new business.
4. Assisting in competitive analysis and strategies in your trade territory.
5. Handling customer complaints promptly and with appropriate procedures.
6. Adhere to and support the company credit policy, checking credit history of patrons before making sales, and explaining the credit policy to new customers. Collects on accounts as needed according to the credit policy. Support the efforts of the Ag-Finance/Credit Manager.
7. Thanking your customer for their past and future business.
Programs & Promotions - Use the Prairieland FS Marketing Plans as your guide and outline throughout the fiscal year:
1. Communicate marketing programs and deliver sales promotion materials to customers and prospects.
2. Establishes a route system in delivery territory, delivers propane and/or petroleum products according to customer requirements.
3. Utilizing various seasonal product fill programs.
Records & Reports - Maintain the following records:
1. Customer files (tank information, sales delivery dates, other pertinent information).
2. Records sales or deliveries information on daily sales.
3. Prepares order forms and sales contracts/bookings.
4. Submits required reports promptly as requested by supervisor and communicates activities in trade territory on a regular basis.
5. Report monthly inventory and use controls to insure no loss of product.
Image & Professional Appearance - It is important that the image of our most important asset, our people, is professional as possible:
1. FS Shirt and outer wear at all times on the job.
2. FS hat if one is worn.
3. Trucks are clean inside and out.
4. Maintains company vehicle, performs basic maintenance as needed.

1. Work towards professional certification (CPS/EMS).
2. Work towards achieving Annual Sales Program, Mark of Excellence, Targeted Sales Program and other company programs.
3. Attend training sessions and sales meetings.
4. Keep up to date on technical information and changes within the industry.
5. Employees with propane duties must attend a minimum of 50% of the local Propane Gas
Association district meetings.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide assistance to other departments on an as-needed basis and continue to support all other areas of our business when all other assigned work is complete.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Normally requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years or more of sales experience to demonstrate strong reasoning ability to solve practical problems and handle customer inquiries and concerns.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat endorsement.
Demonstrated essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Must be able to travel independently and overnight.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Must be willing to work hours beyond those considered “normal.”
Frequently exposed to extreme weather conditions. Working conditions may occasionally include dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards with appropriate safety measures.
