POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a talented Manager of Embryology and Cloning in our Coralville, IA laboratory that will be responsible for using reproductive technologies to produce gene-edited animals for use as human disease models. Appropriate candidates will have extensive experience in embryology and reproductive biology including somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Familiarity with transgenic animal production techniques is preferred. The Manager will be expected to complete scientific and technical tasks on aggressive timelines and to work as part of a team on varied tasks with changing priorities. Position requires excellent communication and presentation skills, an ability to troubleshoot technical issues, an ability to plan and carry out experiments independently, and to work with complex instrumentation and software.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Be a key member of a team developing novel models of human disease.
* Responsible for maintaining a SCNT program and managing a team of embryologists.
* Contribute to the improvement of SCNT efficiencies and outcomes.
* Maintain knowledge of current SCNT and reproductive biology literature.
* Responsible for project planning and troubleshooting of experiments.
* Evaluate data and provide succinct and clear reports that can be shared and transferred to and from cross-functional teams; responsible for clear communication in both written and oral forms.
* Responsible for timely documentation of laboratory work.
* Pay attention to detail, strictly adhere to safety protocols, and use knowledge of basic laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Ph.D. in Reproductive Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields is preferred or M.S. degree with 10 years relevant experience.
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in reproductive biology lab; relevant industry experience preferred.
* Broad experience in mammalian cell and embryo culture techniques.
* Hands on experience with SCNT.
* Hands-on experience with microscopy, micromanipulation, and related instrumentation.
* Experience managing personnel and budgets is a plus.
* Proficiency in cellular molecular biology techniques is a plus.
* Strong writing and experimental documentation skills.
