What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiberglass Tank CNC Winder Operator position at Precision Tank?
Summary - Operate or tend composite CNC fiber winding machines to manufacture multi-layer composite tanks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other Duties may be assigned.
- Double check mandrels to be loaded onto winding machine prior to each tank winding. Make sure mandrel is clean and free of any debris, etc. and prepped for winding.
- Ensure 60-spool creel of fiberglass lines is adequately stocked to complete tank. Also, make sure all 60 lines are in working order.
- Thread fiberglass from creel to bath, through eyebars to mandrels for winding.
- Ensure that proper mix of resin and hardener meets specifications at all times during winding.
- Accurately applies mylar to mandrel as first step in winding process.
- Ensures all remaining layers of tank – chemical veil, chop, winding and gel coat are applied to meet specifications.
- Rolls out each tank layer as required to meet specifications.
- Maintains proper thickness at all stages of tank, especially careful at top and bottom to ensure proper fit to other parts.
- Responsible to attach bottom to tank shell after shell is completed.
- Stop machines to remove completed components, using cranes.
- Operate or tend portable chop or gel coat machines for tops and bottoms as required.
- Complete quality control and regulatory paperwork as applicable.
- Responsible to keep work area clean and free of debris on a daily basis.
Qualifications

Skills & Knowledge:
- CNC equipment operating knowledge.
- Problem sensitivity – the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- Knowledge of fiberglass production machinery to include winders, chop guns, gel coaters, etc.
- Problem solving – the ability to keep fiberglass production machinery running with basic maintenance knowledge.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge to safely operate overhead cranes, fork truck and yard cranes.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 50 lbs.
Education and/or Experience
Actual fiberglass production experience of at least 3 years is essential. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using unit’s weight, measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
