Prelude is the end-to-end digital solution for better in-house preneed planning (pre-planning funeral services well before death) and sales. Funeral care is a $20 billion-a-year industry in the United States, driven primarily by “at need” (planning services after a death has occurred) and preneed services and sales through nearly 20,000 funeral homes across the U.S.

There are many economic and emotional benefits to pre-planning a funeral and while 70% of society desires to handle these arrangements, only 20% of people follow through and do so. This leaves a significant chance for us to make a massive societal impact across the nation. Digital revolution has not yet been brought to the funeral industry space so this means we must do digital right in order to break through.

For various reasons, preneed sales have become a major focus for funeral homes, yet the major beneficiaries of these sales and profits are realized by insurance companies and their middlemen. At Prelude, our mission is for our product to return the profit of preneed to the funeral home. Our business model is set up to be extraordinarily profitable while at the same time paying funeral homes to use our product which is already sparking massive adoption. Our product will increase the profitability of the independent funeral home by 25-50%.

We are looking for a business development representative, because we’ve received such an enthusiastic response from the market that we’ve actually already signed up multiple funeral home partners. We’ve also already negotiated direct relationships for insurance products, assembled the first members of the founding team (deep experts in the funeral space and direct sales), validated our message, and have even earned some revenue

As a business development representative at Prelude, you’ll experience what it’s like to be in an industry-disrupting role where we’re literally reimagining the preneed process from the ground up. Our business model is set to displace industry incumbents which creates a chance to build out an entirely new business product and team. You will be a part of working to create the most delightful end-to-end planning tool to increase preneed revenue and ticket size, without the customer ever feeling like they are being sold to. You’ll be part of a super tight sales/product feedback loop where you’ll be involved in the conversations and help shape the product. This role is for those who enjoy moving fast and like the thrill of seeing a project from concept to launch in record time.

Many people desire to plan their funeral to protect their family from emotional and financial burdens when they die.
The challenge is that planning can be a hard thing mentally to decide to go do. With Prelude, we’ve found a way to gain interest and generate highly qualified leads for people who want to plan, but the initial human interaction is a pivotal part of getting people to take the next steps to actually set an appointment at their local funeral home.

As a business development representative at Prelude, you will be a key part of getting more people to do something that will protect their family and give them peace of mind. Future success depends on the quality of our communications and our ability to connect consumers with the right people at the right time. Your mission is to provide an empathetic and convincing experience so we have a high conversion rate of leads to appointments made at funeral homes. We’ll also want to make sure that what we do results in a high show up rate to these appointments.As a Business Development Representative at Prelude you will:

  • Convert qualified leads to set an appointment at a particular funeral home (When people decide to go to an appointment and show up to plan, the average session is 90 minutes long and the average spent to plan their funeral is $7,500)
  • Make outgoing calls, take incoming calls, and schedule appointments for the consumer on behalf of Prelude and the funeral homes
  • Follow up on leads via phone and email
  • Quickly develop relationships with people and help connect them with professionals in the industry
  • Perform data entry while tracking and documenting learnings in the CRM
  • Consistent communication and collaboration with various teams to dial in the lead-to-show process
  • Experience a lot of growth and excitement around learnings while collaborating with others on the Prelude team

What we are looking for:

  • 3 years of work experience in a sales or customer service role
  • Someone with stellar listening skills and a strong sense of empathy
  • Someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, adaptable, & tech-savvy
  • Someone who can continuously learn and try new approaches in order to increase conversions

Pay: $40,359.36 - $52,217.72 per year
