POSITION: FLORAL DESIGN ASSOCIATE
SEEKING A CREATIVE INDIVIDUAL WITH A PASSION FOR FLOWERS, A POSITIVE CAN-DO ATTITUDE, AND A DESIRE TO BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF BUILDING OUR COMBINATION FLORAL DESIGN STUDIO AND GIFT SHOP BUSINESS.
Premier Floral Design & Gift Emporium is a charming shop located in the Mercato at the historic Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Our business is unique in the sense that we are a full service florist and spacious gift shop all in one. Our floral design studio specializes in designing one-of-a-kind floral arrangements for special events, holidays, weddings, funerals, and the every-day floral and gifting clientele, while our gift emporium offers a lovely selection of puzzles, journals, home decor, greeting cards and other unique gift items.
Recently under new ownership, we seek to create an immersive and all-inclusive floral and gift shopping experience for our patrons.
Our ideal candidate will be eager to implement updates on a regular basis, and demonstrate enthusiasm to be an integral part of shaping the vision and direction of our business moving forward.
Due to the nature of our business, a willingness to perform both floral design and retail duties will be imperative to this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Retrieving and processing flowers
- Designing, coordinating, and packaging floral arrangements for pickups and delivery
- Monitoring flower cooler inventory and determining what needs to be replenished
- Maintaining the viability of cut-flower inventory and plants by properly feeding, watering and rotating
- Floral supplies management; reorder, receive, unpack, and restock
- Advising clients on floral color palettes, varieties, styles, vessels, and mechanics
- Providing unparalleled customer service; greet customers, accommodate special requests, demonstrate and promote products
- Comforting families during sympathy arrangement consultations
- On-site event set up and break down: transporting supplies, executing installations, properly placing arrangements; retrieving rented items, dismantling installations
- Following store opening and closing procedures, and other standard operating procedures pertaining to flower care and handling and shop operations
- Answering phones; taking orders, scheduling pick-ups and deliveries, responding in a timely manner to general inquiries and messages
- Receiving, unpacking, pricing, and merchandising new gift shop inventory
- Completing sales transactions (cash handling, processing credit card payments) accurately and efficiently while engaging with retail customers
- Basic housekeeping to keep the floral studio and gift shop clean and tidy
- Using down time to stock merchandise and perform other duties as assigned
Skills & Abilities Required:
- Must possess an artistic flair and a passion for flowers
- A strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude
- An understanding of the elements and principles of floral design
- Adaptability and sense of urgency; must demonstrate the ability to effortlessly switch from one task to another, and circle back to incomplete tasks
- Capable of thinking outside the box and improvising on the spot
- Ability to climb up ladders to affix mechanics for floral installations
- Friendly and professional demeanor
- Exceptional grammar, communication, and customer service skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Capacity to remain calm in fast-paced and time sensitive situations
- Team Player; ability to work with outside vendors and sales representatives
- Reliability; this is an event centered business, scheduled attendance is imperative
- Flexibility; must be willing to adapt to last minute event schedule changes
- Be able to stand, reach, bend, and move around for long hours
- Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and some holidays
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a valid drivers license
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Floral design experience and/or basic flower care & handling knowledge
- Familiarity with common retail tools such as basic computer applications, smartphone and tablet devices, and a POS system

This is a part to full time, year-round position. Pay will be based on experience; willing to train the right candidate.
