Position Title: Quarterly Adjunct Lecturer-Mechanical Engineering (Pool) Position Type: Temporary Salary Range: $9460 per Course Equivalent (CE) Purpose: Purpose: The School of Engineering seeks a dynamic quarterly adjunct lecturer (QAL) for the 2023-2024 academic year to teach undergraduate level (possibly graduate level) MECH courses and labs. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a solid commitment to innovative teaching methods, and the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the University. Demonstrated dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, the School, and the discipline of mechanical engineering. They will be expected to be able to teach in our undergraduate programs, or possibly graduate programs. Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system. Each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) is 10 weeks long, with an extra week for final examinations. Undergraduate classes are typically offered either three times a week Monday/Wednesday/Friday for 1 hour 5 minutes per session or two times a week Tuesday/Thursday for 1 hour 40 minutes and are typically four units. We also offer 1 unit courses and labs which are typically only taught once per week, courses for 1 hour 5 minutes, and labs for 2 hours 45 mins. QALs are allowed to teach up to 4 course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year with no more than 2 CEs in any particular quarter. Additionally, QALs are allowed to teach an additional 2 CEs during the summer terms. Generally, course equivalencies are: UNDERGRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE 1 unit lab = 0.5 CE 1 unit lab with a teaching assistant = 0.25 CE GRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE 2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE Basic Qualifications: Earned graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in mechanical engineering. At a minimum, candidates should hold a Master’s degree with equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in teaching mechanical engineering concepts at the undergraduate level, and possibly at the graduate level. Responsibilities: Teach one or more undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses and participate in all related activities, including: 1. Prepare and conduct all assigned class meetings 2. Assign and evaluate/grade student work appropriately 3. Be available to students for consultation outside of class 4. Assign student grades appropriately and submit them on time to the Office of Student Records 5. Conduct course assessments as required by the department 6. Complete and submit time cards every two weeks 7.
