POSITION SUMMARY
Nursing Informatics Specialist acts as a liaison between the nursing and other departments across Prestige to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education and training, assessing quality outcomes, and by providing nursing support in alignment with organizational goals. The Nursing Informatics Specialist is responsible for determining the needs and requirements for clinical applications in skilled nursing and assisted living divisions and participates in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of clinical systems and technologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partners with the regional clinical teams to consistently implement policy and procedures, and ensures policies and procedures are integrated throughout all platforms, including the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborates with members of the interdepartmental leadership team to develop operational workflows to optimize efficiency of clinical services and quality delivery of care.
- Conducts periodic site visits for validation of clinical program integrity and consistency of regional implementation.
- Obtains, analyzes, and presents data to stakeholders and recommend changes to clinical systems. Data includes but is not limited to: Minimum Data Set (MDS), PDPM, CMS 5-Star ratings, CMS Quality Measure, Value-Based purchasing (VBP), Infection Control, and Return to Hospital (RTH).
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure utilization of data to inform best practices and positive clinical outcomes. Assists in integrating clinical data into the business intelligence software and measures internal data to industry standards, such as AHCA Trend Tracker.
- Conducts analysis of quality data and regulatory trends, under the guidance of the Chief Clinical Officer, to develop and deploy applicable Quality Assurance Performance Improvement strategies.
- Participates in system analysis and research related to the EHR and other clinical technologies.
- Responds appropriately to requests and concerns from users affected by the system.
- Participates in committees and work groups to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of the development, implementation, and revision of the EHR.
- Partners with IT in usability testing and verify updates, patches, and new releases to the EHR and other clinical technologies prior to activation.
- Monitors clinical systems to ensure they are in compliance with federal, state, and local legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains an up-to-date professional knowledge of industry trends, best practices and issues, nursing practices, healthcare informatics, federal and state standards and regulations, company policies and procedures as related to clinical practice, and the legal implications of the EHR and other clinical technologies.
- Participates in presentations and publications related to the EHR and clinical technology. Maintains memberships in industry related organizations and attends industry trainings, panels, education events, and conferences, which may include, AHCA, WHCA, OHCA, HIMSS, ANIA, AMIA, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must have an active RN license in the state of residence. Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience in skilled nursing and long-term care. Technical experience and advance knowledge of Point Clink Care (PCC), clinical information systems and other clinical technologies required. Previous experience in Nursing Informatics is preferred.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Certification in Nursing Informatics and/or master’s degree in nursing preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily works in an office setting at home or in our central support location with occasional travel to skilled nursing centers and assisted living communities up to 25% of the time.
