COMPENSATION
Assistant Civil Engineer: $71,726 - $93,587 Civil Engineer I- $85,147 - $107,227 Civil Engineer II- $ 101,229 - $122,295
Civil Engineer III- $113,239 - $133,496

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for providing day-to-day engineering review and response to numerous third-party projects adjacent to trackway and NYC Transit facilities and C&D capital contracts, especially where structural overcoating applies. Duties consist of overseeing, and reviewing engineering plans, drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, reports and estimates for C&D capital contracts and third-party field construction activities. Third-party construction activities include but are not limited to: geotechnical foundation, SOE, dewatering, blasting and groundwork, boring, test pits, structural new building, sidewalk reconstruction, sheds and scaffold, bridge rehabilitation, civil/structural street work, vibration and optical monitoring, crane-operation, and demolition. The Civil Engineer will also review, write/report, provide input and feedback to C&D capital contracts in support of NYCT’s best interests and DOS EAM for all steel overcoat painting jobs and surveys.
The incumbent must be prepared to react/respond to emergencies such as building collapses, fires, flood conditions and other critical occurrences that may disrupt train service, as required, 24 hours a day/7 day a week. This position requires both field and office work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Assistant Civil Engineer
A Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
Civil Engineer I-III
A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License and either:
- A master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
- Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
In addition to the above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in level II and III, individuals must have at least one (1) year within the last three (3) years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
DESIRED SKILLS
Possesses knowledge of New York State and New York City regulations and procedures pertaining to building (D.O.B.) and D.O.T./D.D.C. construction activities. Familiarity with street, building and bridge work by private, semi-public, local utility companies and other city, state and federal agencies as well as NYCT structures, practices, rules, and regulations.
Possesses knowledge of basic geotechnical, civil and structural engineering concepts, design, testing, inspection and construction methods, standards, practices, and application to make sound and safe engineering decisions in the best interest of NYCT.
Possesses familiarity with overcoat structural steel painting procedures, and requirements.
Possesses excellent oral, written, and organizational skills, works well with others, and takes responsibility.

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.
All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
