Full Job Description

Job Summary: The main objective of this position is to ensure correct processing of all patient payments, insurance claims and insurance payments for a three provider clinic. It involves interpreting and implementing specified insurance billing guidelines and coordinating all facets of insurance billing including refunds and collections. This role ensures duties are completed accurately and timely while acting as a team player for optimum office flow and excellent patient service.

Specific Duties:

  • Enter charges, post insurance payments, returned checks, fees, and patient payments to patient accounts
  • Correct and submit insurance claims to maximize reimbursement
  • Check claims to ensure that modifiers are being used correctly
  • Check diagnosis codes against LCDs
  • Process appeals to insurance companies.
  • Prepare reviews and send patient statements.
  • Respond to written, electronic and telephone inquiries from patients and insurance companies regarding patient accounts.
  • Work collection accounts
  • Other
  • Daily complete the bank deposit
  • Act as back-up for other staff members as needed
  • Other duties as directed by the Office Manager
  • Contact patients by telephone and resubmit claims to third party reimbursers
  • Identify and resolve patient billing complaints.
  • Refunds patient payments when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required, Certified Professional biller preferred
  • Skills and abilities : Excellent customer service and organizational skills, proficient in Microsoft Office (word and excel)
  • Experience: 3-5 years medical office billing experience preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: certification as a biller preferred

Other: Must pass background and credit check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in an office environment. Frequent contact with insurance companies and staff with other providers. Patient contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Operates keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $22.00 per hour
