Job Summary
Responsible for performing all aspects of surveying duties at assigned projects during all phases of the construction project including planning and coordinating activities to ensure that roadway and bridge plans and plan modifications/ revisions are accurately accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. The Survey Party Chief will be working in the field, performing various calculations and stake-out for all aspects of Heavy-Highway and Bridges (i.e., ITS, Signage, Lighting, Public utilities, Drainage, MSE wall, Noise wall, Barrier wall, and Bridges from the footer to approach slabs). This position involves the usage and operation of surveying instruments and equipment as well as compiling and entering data. The Survey Party Chief may at times act as a representative of the company in supporting decisions concerning construction layout and other survey-related issues.
Job Description
- Operating GPS, Trimble, and other applicable equipment and software
- Attend field meetings with clients, government officials, inspectors, and other governing agencies
- Assist in the supervision and monitoring of the construction personnel concerning plan clarification and problem-solving
- Comparing survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data
- Able to make project decisions affecting the quality control of the survey data established for the project when applicable
- Perform layout and as-builts of all items pertaining to road construction (walls, drainages, bridges, earthworks, ITS, FSS, TCP’s, etc.)
- Maintain control and execution of all surveying activities involving field and office processes
- Daily maintenance and preparation of surveying equipment, supplies, and vehicle
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Must be proficient in all aspects of highway construction survey; Minimum of five (5) years of relevant surveying construction experience with FDOT roadway projects
- Must be capable of working independently with self-supervision as may be required during the beginning phases of a project and throughout the project duration (such as pre-construction investigations, construction, and post-construction surveys)
- Must be well versed with field note reduction, in-depth plan interpretation, and highway construction computations
- Must possess supervisory skills and detailed working knowledge of the standard field and office procedures
- Must possess knowledge of the principles of the profession and various technical standards
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, GPS, Robotic, and Roadway CADD software
- Must have a working knowledge of how to operate, and perform basic field adjustments on rods, levels, tribrach’s, robotic instruments, data collectors, tripods, and GPS equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to lift 25 to 50 lbs. several times a day
- Accustomed to working in outside environment
- Must work well under pressure
- Able to accommodate travel and working night shift and weekends, when necessary
- Preferred familiarity with the following: Trimble Access or equivalent; Trimble Business Center and or TerraModel or equivalent; Trimble robotic instruments or equivalent; Trimble GPS Rover or equivalent; Trimble Digital level or equivalent
