What You'll Do:
We’re looking for an Underwriter to join our SBD Group Underwriting team. In this role, you’ll evaluate risks and underwrite standard group insurance cases of prospects, new case, amendments and renewals. We are looking for someone who consistently exercises sound judgment and has proven negotiation skills!
Daily Responsibilities Include:
Gather and review appropriate information for support functions to ensure all information is reasonable, complete, and accurate.-
Analyze data, make corrections, and/or performs calculations.

Assess risk/liability and calculate/negotiate rates on cases by analyzing industry, demographics, claim history, and plan design.

Acts as a technical resource for some specialized processes by answering questions, assisting in recommending solutions and assisting other team members.

Research and answer standard risk related questions, and provide information and recommendations to internal and external customers.

Participates in special projects regarding operational issues, systems and/or processes. Assists with training of process changes.

Who You Are:
- You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

You have strong planning/organizational, problem-solving, analytical, time management, decision-making, and oral and written communication skills, as well as general math skills

You are able to maintain accuracy while being detail oriented

Ability to maintain confidentiality is required
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
- 0 - 2 years underwriting or insurance experience preferred

Computer skills and basic knowledge of business unit applications & products preferred
Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. We are hiring for our Des Moines, IA office location. This role offers the ability for in-office and hybrid work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to determine which option may align best based on several factors.
