We are looking for a Contract - Principal Storage Systems Engineer to help Design, build out, Automate, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructure.  You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.  You will work on a global infrastructure that includes Azure cloud deployments and in our Data Centers in the United States, APAC & Europe.

 

You are the go to person for solutions on storage, SAN, backup, DR &  infrastructure capacity planning. You are hands on with solution implementation, detailed execution planning &  fool proof implementation. You strive for reliability in operation, value long term stability, cost savings & be a guide on best practice.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Automation: Analyze, design, and implement tools for backup and storage infrastructure management.
  • Design, Administration, and development of storage and backup Infrastructure & define best practice.
  • Design, Administration and development infrastructure solutions with hybrid cloud options.
  • Development/management of VMware system Infrastructure storage configuration.
  • Plan capacity, engage other Itron organizations on infrastructure design and cost.
  • Resolve Support issues and come up with permeant fix.
  • Tier 3 On Call support of production infrastructure.
  • Disaster Recovery Operations.
  • Automation, scripting of System infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.
  • Increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.

 

Required Skills:

  • 10 years of proven experience in enterprise strategy, enterprise data architecture and IT project/program delivery focusing on infrastructure, storage, SAN & Backups.
  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service providers and platforms, for example: Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenStack, etc.
  • Platform-as-a-Service providers and platforms, for example: AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP, Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in cloud architectures (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, distributed systems) and approaches to address their unique management and security considerations.
  • Very strong “hands on” storage background in conceptualization, development, implementation, and administration of multi-site EMC, DELL, Cisco UCS, DataDomain, Veeam,, Pure, NetApp, Hitachi and Cisco San & Storage in a multi-petabyte disk storage environment.
  • Extensive “hands on” experience implementing and managing hardware and software platforms from Microsoft, VMware, Red Hat, Ubuntu, UCS, vBlock and VMS solutions in large enterprise wide networks.
  • Proven track record in business engagement.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning skills, and understands “Big Picture.”
  • Must be able to come up with solutions and presentations.
  • Must be able to lead infrastructure side of projects.
  • Automation tools Ansible, puppet, shell scripting a must.
  • 5 years’ experience with large VMWare infrastructure & Azure infrastructure a must.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, SAN & NAS.
  • Prior design experience in cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands on expertise in VMware automation using ansible/python.
  • Ability to work independently and drive across internal teams and storage vendors.
  • Must be adept at identifying and eliminating performance bottlenecks and making performance-related recommendations (hardware, software, and configuration).
  • In depth knowledge of DNS principles and architectures.
  • Expert knowledge in one of the guest operating systems such as Windows, Linux, etc.
  • Familiarity with security issues and best practices for virtual environments.

  • Multi-tasking experience
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, written and spoken and be capable of presenting technical concepts to audiences of various technical abilities
  • Knowledge of Sharepoint, Splunk, Jira a plus
  • Ability to mentor & Train others.
