MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct support, training, and guidance to MDS and facility staff in your assigned nursing facilities in accordance with current applicable federal and state standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Clinical Quality/Reimbursement Director.
Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. As the Regional MDS Consultant, you are delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability to carry out your assigned duties.
- To act as an essential resource and mentor to facility MDS Nurses and administrative staff, provide support, and guidance with a POSITIVE approach in order to create change in facility performance and outcomes.
- To ensure that the Resident Assessment Instrument and the documentation to support the Resident Assessment Instrument for regulatory and reimbursement purposes are within the standards of Principle Long Term Care and Federal and State guidelines
- To participate in the training & education of facility MDS and Interdisciplinary Team Members in all areas of the Resident Assessment Instrument process, and the quality measures.
- To ensure that facilities are accurately reporting resident conditions and services provided in accordance with Federal and State guidelines in an effort to maximize quality measure ratings, and reimbursement through all payer sources.
- To perform intensive reviews of the Resident Assessment Instrument & all related documentation to determine regulatory and reimbursement guideline compliance, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Review quality measure triggers and work with the interdisciplinary teams on ways to improve their star rating, including conducting weekly QM focus calls with facilities who have a rating below 3 stars.
- Provide hands-on training for new MDS Nurses, Social Workers, Dietary Managers, and Activity Directors in the Resident Assessment Instrument process and related documentation requirements for regulatory compliance and reimbursement.
- Prioritize facility visits according to the needs of the facility, problems and/or opportunities identified during previous visits, MDS Nurse staffing issues, or as requested by the Administrator.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state(s) where facilities are located.
- Must have, as a minimum, 2 years of experience as an MDS Nurse in a skilled nursing facility.
- Must have a working knowledge of the RAI process, including the Minimum Data Set, Care Area Assessments, the Resident Care Plan, Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM), Quality Measures, and Medicare Part A and case mix documentation requirements.
- Must have a working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and documentation requirements related to the Resident Assessment Instrument and reimbursement.
