What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victim Advocate position at Project R.E.S.T.?

Project R.E.S.T. provides services to victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties. Our mission is to use our collective voice to address the impact of domestic and sexual violence by providing quality services to those affected and to create social change through education training and activism.

This position has multiple work locations:

  • Spartanburg County Office(s) once a week
  • Union County Office twice a week
  • Gaffney County Office twice a week

Minimum Qualifications:

1. BA or BS in Human Services

2. Ability to relate to individuals and groups in an empathetic, nonjudgmental manner, possessing maximum insight and self-awareness to be confident in the role, with knowledge of personal capabilities and limitations.

3. Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and the problems that battered women and victims of sexual violence face.

4. Knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault issues that special populations (i.e. elderly, disabled, rural, etc.) face when accessing services.

5. Comfortable with telephone communication, especially with callers who may be in crisis.

6. Ability to gather and key in information simultaneously, taking clear and accurate notes.

7. Possession of a valid South Carolina driver’s license and an automobile which can be used during working hours.

8. Ability to work flexible hours including some night work.

9. Technologically independent: possess dependable computer skills, including proficient and accurate typing.

10. Exhibit qualities of dependability, empathy, genuineness, respect, and maintain a positive and supportive attitude with colleagues/co-workers.

11. Bi-lingual is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the provision of direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

2. Assist victims of domestic violence in completion of order of protection petitions or restraining orders petition and provide court escort to victims requesting this service (as needed).

3. Assist sexual assault victims in completion of restraining in orders or domestic abuse petitions and provide court escort to victims requesting this service (as needed).

4. Accompany victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to General Sessions, Law Enforcement interviews and Bond hearings.

5. Conduct intake interviews and assist clients according to individual needs (i.e. crisis intervention, assessment of need and provision of emergency shelter, transportation, food, and referrals).

6. Enter caller’s personal information in case management system while speaking with caller.

7. Maintain accurate and current case files and complete necessary reporting forms.

8. Needs to be able to be on call 7 days (not consecutive) every 2.5 or 3 months.

9. Needs to be able to identify callers high-priority issues (issue spotting)

10. Will review case reports daily to ensure cases are being entered properly in the case management system.

11. Support Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault with finding appropriate resources that suit their needs.

12. Collaborate with victim advocates, therapists, and other staff to assure high quality service to callers and walk-ins.

13. Assist in completing monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports to funding sources.

14. Attending staff and supervisory meetings as scheduled.

15. Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with agency staff and volunteers.

16. Assist in training volunteers who assist in achieving agency objectives.

17. Protect the confidentiality of clients at all times.

18. Assist victims in applying to the Victims Compensation Fund.

19. Other activities may be required.

Pay: $33,000.00 - $37,000.00 per year
