Position: Project Warm Volunteer Coordinator

Reports To: YouthBuild Louisville CEO

Organization Summary:

The YouthBuild Louisville (YBL) Urban Conservation Corps program is designed to teach Americorps members through Environmental Education and Career Readiness service activities that engage youth in meaningful, urban projects and service while building workforce skills for the green sector in Louisville, Kentucky. Project Warm is a YouthBuild Louisville and UCC partner that provides weatherization services to low-income households throughout Louisville.

Position Summary:

The AmeriCorps member will build capacity for Project Warm by working to build a volunteer program to recruit and train new volunteers to the program. These volunteers will also help provide services to households. The member will be responsible for developing systems to track volunteers, implementing data evaluation and reporting strategies, and help increase capacity to serve more clients in need. Building capacity to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our programs will fight poverty and ensure that our services reach those in need.

The position involves physically challenging, team-oriented work while learning about weatherization. Project sites will vary throughout Metro Louisville. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Members may operate hand and power tools of all types.

Eligibility Statement:

The Program ensures that all members meet the CNCS minimum qualifications - AmeriCorps members must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or lawful permanent residents of the United States. They must also be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of their term of service. Some youth corps programs can accept 16 year-olds who are out-of-school youth. Members must be high school graduates, GED recipients, or must be working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service. They must agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using the education award. All members are subject to a criminal history check. The program will not hire any Individuals who have been convicted of murder and those who are required to register on a sex offender public registry are not eligible to serve in AmeriCorps.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 – 24 years old and be able to perform essential functions of the role including physically strenuous work (including lifting 50 lbs.)
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrate time management skills by coming to work according to work schedule, arriving on time and returning from breaks on time.
  • Complete daily timesheet and sign off before leaving service site on Fridays.
  • Display willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges and good work ethic daily.
  • Must wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, or life jackets and follow YouthBuild Louisville dress code.
  • Must be willing to spend time standing and to work in restricted areas to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must be willing to climb ladders and work in high areas.
  • Must be able to work a 40-hour week.

Activities:

  • Recruit, train, lead, and track volunteers for Project Warm
  • Complete Weatherization and Retrofit Training
  • Assist with Home Retrofits
  • Assist in the planning/management of Project Warm’s Blitz (a volunteer-heavy event)

Approved Activities for Full/Half Time AmeriCorps Member Remote & Teleservice *These activities are approved on an as needed basis in the event that members are not able to complete their regularly scheduled tasks.

  • Performing wellness calls to YouthBuild & YHDP Participants, community members or neighbors. These calls and the outcomes should be well documented.
  • Working to research and connect the above mentioned to local resources in the community.
  • Helping program participants, community members or neighbors access Internet Services, computers, digital resources, & learning platforms.
  • Assisting with securing services, food baskets, medical supplies, etc.
  • Creating lesson plans, and/ or assist with setting up Google Classroom platforms for construction &/or GED prep..
  • Volunteering to work in neighborhood community gardens, or food banks.
  • Other additional activities as approved by site supervisor.
